To proactively deal with monkeypox, Vietnamese authorities have proactively strengthened disease surveillance, prevention and control, said Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.
At the regular press conference on the afternoon of August 22 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a reporter's request to comment on the monkeypox epidemic situation in the world and Vietnam's efforts to prevent this disease, Ms. Hang said that the World Health Organization (WHO) recently announced monkeypox as a global public health emergency due to the rapid increase of this disease in many African countries.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman affirmed that relevant Vietnamese agencies have taken strict measures to proactively and promptly detect domestic and foreign cases entering Vietnam.
Specifically, on August 19, the Ministry of Health sent an official dispatch to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities, the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology/Pasteur, and the Institutes for the Treatment of Infectious Medical Diseases on strengthening the prevention of monkeypox and continuing to strictly implement the instructions in Official Dispatch No. 680/CD-TTg dated August 1, 2022 of the Prime Minister on strengthening the prevention and control of monkeypox and guidelines for monitoring and prevention of monkeypox.
The Prime Minister's dispatch also covers the diagnosis and treatment of monkeypox, and the prevention of monkeypox infection in medical examination and treatment facilities, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said. Accordingly, Vietnam will strengthen surveillance and detect suspected cases at border gates and cases at medical examination and treatment facilities, public and private health facilities.
At the same time, health agencies and functional agencies coordinate with localities to strengthen communication on measures to prevent and combat monkeypox; inspect and direct epidemic prevention work in localities; review and update plans and prevention scenarios to be ready to respond when an epidemic occurs in the area.
Ms. Hang said that in the coming time, Vietnam's health agencies and disease prevention agencies will continue to assess and closely monitor the situation to promptly take necessary disease prevention measures to ensure people's safety.
