On the afternoon of May 23, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Tanja Fajon.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated the results of the talks between the two Foreign Ministers, the meeting with Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, as well as the Vietnam - Slovenia Business Forum held in Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam always values and wishes to strengthen multi-faceted cooperation with Slovenia, a traditional friendly partner in Central Eastern Europe.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Tanja Fajon affirmed that Slovenia wishes to strongly promote the traditional friendly and cooperative relationship with Vietnam, one of the leading important partners in the region.
Regarding bilateral relations, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his satisfaction with the positive developments in bilateral relations and suggested increasing delegation exchanges at all levels, especially at the high, ministerial, sectoral and local levels, especially in 2024 when celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Regarding economic and trade cooperation, over the past year, despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the two countries still maintained positive growth momentum, with two-way trade turnover reaching a record of more than 570 million USD, an increase of 15% compared to 2021.
The Prime Minister suggested that Slovenia create more favorable conditions for Vietnam's key products such as electronics, textiles, agriculture and seafood to access the Slovenian and EU markets.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Tanja Fajon affirmed that, with a good traditional foundation, Slovenia wishes to deepen relations with Vietnam. The Slovenian government highly appreciates the advantages of the market, human resources and business and investment environment in Vietnam, and both countries support free trade.
The Slovenian business community is very interested and wishes to cooperate effectively and substantially with Vietnamese partners, as demonstrated by the fact that many leading Slovenian businesses have come to Vietnam on this occasion.
At the meeting on the morning of May 23, Minister Bui Thanh Son said that Ms. Tanja Fajon's visit to Vietnam is an important milestone, promoting the relationship between the two countries to become increasingly deeper and more effective.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of Slovenia Tanja Fajon was impressed by Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and highly appreciated the increasingly important role and position of Vietnam in the region and the world.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son appreciated Slovenia for organizing a business delegation to accompany the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Slovenia, and suggested that the two sides closely coordinate to maximize the opportunities brought about by the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
Encourage Slovenia to increase investment in areas that Vietnam has demand for and Slovenia has strengths in, such as maritime transport, logistics, water and waste management, etc.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia affirmed that Slovenia will soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), urge the EC to soon remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood products, and coordinate to prepare for the successful organization of the 3rd meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation in October 2023 in Slovenia.
Slovenian Ms. Tanja Fajon assessed Vietnam as a dynamically developing economy in Southeast Asia and one of Slovenia’s potential markets. She hoped that the two sides would promote cooperation in the fields of green technology, renewable energy, environmental protection, seaports, logistics, etc.
The Slovenian Parliament is in the process of ratifying the EVIPA Agreement and affirms its support for the EC to soon remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood.
