Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore are the most sought-after overseas destinations by Chinese tourists during the upcoming "Golden Week" travel holiday.
China is about to enter its final "Golden Week" of the year, lasting from September 29 to October 6. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival coincides with the National Day holiday, so the holiday is longer than usual, giving people more opportunities to travel.
Interest in overseas travel has increased after restrictions on going abroad were eased. Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong are the six most searched destinations by Chinese tourists. Destinations in Vietnam are not among the top 6, according to statistics from the Big Data Research Institute of Beijing-based online travel company Qunar.

For domestic destinations, major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Suzhou, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xi'an are expected to be the busiest destinations.
Data from Meituan, a shopping platform that sells tickets for travel and attractions, shows that Wuhan, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, Changsha and Chengdu are the top domestic destinations for rail passengers. Hangzhou, which is preparing to host the Asian Games, is also on the list of hot spots this time.
According to Xinhua , China's railway industry set a new record for single-day ticket sales, with 22.9 million tickets booked on the first day of sales on September 15. An estimated 190 million rail trips were made during the 12-day travel rush from September 27 to October 8, compared to 72 million trips during the same period last year.
More than 21 million people are expected to travel by air during the holiday, with the number of domestic flights and average daily passengers up 18 and 17 percent, respectively, compared to the same period in 2019, said Kim Tuan Hao, an official with the Civil Aviation Administration.
