Many young faces of Muay Vietnam create surprises against athletes from Thailand and Malaysia

Coming to the IFMA Senior World Championships 2023, the Vietnamese Muay team encountered many difficulties when the coaching staff had to divide the team into 2 teams to compete internationally at the same time. The first team had outstanding athletes such as Huynh Ha Huu Hieu and Nguyen Thanh Tung competing at the 32nd SEA Games in the Kun Khmer sport. Meanwhile, in the second team, Huynh Hoang Phi and some remaining members went to Thailand to compete in the IFMA Senior World Championships 2023. Therefore, the results achieved in Thailand were considered a surprise to the coaching staff. At the same time, Vietnamese Muay is showing that they have a team with many quality athletes.

Before the 32nd SEA Games, the International Muay Thai Federation (IFMA) announced that it would ban athletes participating in the Kun Khmer sport from international competitions. However, recently, (IFMA) has also lifted this announcement.

At the 32nd SEA Games, the first team of Vietnam Muay Thai finished the Khmer kun event with gold medals from Huynh Ha Huu Hieu (45 kg women), Ta Thi Kim Yen (48 kg women), Trieu Thi Phuong Thuy (51 kg women), Bui Yen Ly (57 kg women) and Bang Thi Mai (60 kg women). In addition, the Vietnam Khmer kun team also won 8 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.

This result helped the Vietnamese Khmer team rank second overall at the 32nd SEA Games.
