On July 14, continuing his working program in the US, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung worked with government agencies, organizations, businesses, investment funds, and large corporations to promote cooperation in innovation and technology; research, exchange experiences and attract resources to build an international financial center; promote and attract investment in high-tech projects.
Also attending the working sessions of Minister Nguyen Chi Dung were Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung and Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN) Dang Hoang Giang.
At the working session with the New York Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the two sides discussed experiences and cooperation possibilities in the fields of innovation, research and technology development, and the development of the startup business ecosystem. Minister Nguyen Chi Dung suggested that NYCEDC, with its experience, continue to support Vietnam in the process of socio-economic development.
The Minister also had a discussion with representatives of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) about the NYSE's experience in developing the capital, stock, bond, and derivative markets, thereby applying lessons learned, contributing to the process of building a financial center in Vietnam. The NYSE also noted that Vietnam needs to have a transparent tax, banking, and related legal framework that is favorable to investors.
The Vietnamese delegation also discussed with Moody's Credit Rating Agency about the global market situation and trends. Moody's highly appreciated Vietnam's remarkable development and the country's increasing credit rating.
At the Financial Services Volunteer Group (FSVC), Minister Nguyen Chi Dung and Mr. Andrew Spinler, Chairman and CEO, had in-depth discussions on the experience of building a financial center in Vietnam, made assessments and compared Vietnam with current financial centers around the world, the necessary and sufficient conditions for building and forming a financial center and especially the next steps for Vietnam to realize this important goal in the short and long term.
On the same day, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung received large enterprises and corporations that are members of the Business Council for International Relations (BCIU) such as AES, TIAA, CitiGroup, Mitsubishi Americas, Davidson Kempner Capital Management, S&P Global... The Minister expressed his hope that enterprises will continue to promote investment cooperation, increase contributions to the socio-economic development of Vietnam and the comprehensive partnership between the two countries in the coming time.
The corporations are all very interested in and confident in Vietnam's business investment environment, and are committed to continuing to expand their investment in Vietnam in the coming time. The Minister and Mr. Patrick Santillo, Vice President/CEO of BCIU, chaired the Roundtable Discussion on the orientation and opportunities for Vietnam-US investment cooperation.
According to the working schedule, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung also worked with KKR Investment Fund, one of the world's leading investment funds. KKR committed to continue promoting investment cooperation, strengthening Vietnam's connection with international partners and businesses, and bringing in experience and experts to support Vietnam in building and developing an international financial center.
Speaking at meetings, working sessions and business seminars, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and the US is in a good period. This is an important foundation to promote economic, investment and trade cooperation, bringing benefits to both sides. The Minister hopes that in the coming time, Vietnam will attract projects from US investors with higher quality, high added value, linking and improving the capacity of Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the global value chain.
