Seasonal work during the Lunar New Year is not only an opportunity to earn extra income but also helps students learn, improve skills, build relationships and prepare for future careers.
Every time Lunar New Year approaches, the demand for human resources in many industries increases, creating job opportunities for students looking for seasonal work.
This is an opportunity for young people not only to earn extra income but also to gain experience and practice working skills in a real environment. Along with the development of the economy and the high consumer demand during Tet, seasonal jobs have become abundant and diverse, from sales, delivery to support jobs in events and festivals.
According to Mr. Vu Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Public Service Center, at the end of the year, "hot" industries and occupations recruit many seasonal workers such as trade, logistics, customer care, cashier, garment...
Mr. Thanh analyzed that supermarkets, stores, especially stores specializing in selling Tet goods, necessities, gifts... always have a need to recruit sales staff, cashiers, and merchandise arrangers. These jobs require agility, good communication and the ability to handle situations flexibly.
“With the increase in online shopping during Tet, the demand for delivery of goods has also increased sharply. Students can participate in delivery work for e-commerce companies or retail stores. This job does not require experience, just a means of transportation and the ability to work hard,” said the Deputy Director of the DVVL Center.
Seasonal jobs help students gain experience and earn extra income
In addition, according to the reporter, Lunar New Year is an opportunity for many companies and organizations to organize large events, festivals, exhibitions... Students can participate in jobs such as supporting the organization, selling tickets, serving customers, supervising security, filming and taking photos or coordinating activities during the event.
This is an opportunity for students to improve their personal finances during the Tet holiday, especially those who are in difficult circumstances or want to take care of their own expenses during the holiday.
Nguyen Viet Long, a second-year student at the University of Transport, shared: “From the very first year of school, every Tet holiday, after completing my semester exams, I tried to find myself a suitable seasonal job.
“I worked as a sales person for a supermarket in Hanoi. Although the job was not related to my major, it was very helpful in learning communication skills.
This job also helps me earn extra income to support my family and have extra spending money for Tet without having to ask my parents for money," Long said.
Decorating shops, restaurants, offices or houses for Tet also requires many seasonal workers. This is a good opportunity for students who are creative and love decorating and organizing spaces.
As a senior student at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, with the knowledge he learned and his artistic ability, NQH has earned millions of dollars every day at the end of the year by arranging orchids for hire at orchid shops.
“Orchid arrangement requires high skills, artistic thinking and creativity, so this job also has a fairly high income. I myself have 3 years of experience in the profession, although I am not as good as my seniors, but with my skills, I have a decent income, not only enough to spend but also enough to give to my parents during Tet,” H. confided.
“Although seasonal work often does not require much experience, it is an opportunity for students to practice communication, teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills. These are valuable skills that help students easily find full-time work after graduation.
During their work, students can meet and work with many people from different fields. These relationships can be helpful in their future work, especially when students need to find stable job opportunities after graduation," said a representative of the Career Guidance and Business Cooperation Center of the East Asia University of Technology.
Some notes when looking for seasonal work
Students should choose a job that suits their abilities and study time. A job that is too heavy or requires long hours can affect their studies.
“Be careful with unclear jobs, there are many companies or organizations that can take advantage of students' need for Tet jobs. Therefore, students need to carefully research information about the company, the job and clearly negotiate salary and benefits,” said the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Service Center.
Even with a seasonal job, students need to know how to allocate time reasonably between work and study, ensuring that it does not affect their academic performance.
