Why are VinFast electric motorbikes increasingly attracting young people?

Beautiful cars, deep discounts, young people excitedly create the "green" trend

Minh Hue, a new student at Hanoi Foreign Trade University, has just decided to switch to an electric motorbike. The electric motorbike Minh Hue decided to buy is a VinFast Evo200 with a selling price of only 15 million VND for the battery rental version, thanks to the incentive from the "Greening Vietnam" program that the Vietnamese car company has just launched.

“Fashionable design, cost-effective compared to gasoline motorbikes, I contacted the dealer immediately to take advantage of the promotion,” Minh Hue shared.

The incentives mentioned by the female customer are part of the "Greening Vietnam" campaign, which is applied to all customers who buy VinFast electric motorbikes from September 20 to December 31, 2024. Specifically, customers who buy a motorbike by renting a battery will receive a gift worth 3 million VND, customers who buy a motorbike with a battery will enjoy a discount of up to 12 million VND. Buyers can choose to convert the above incentives into accumulated benefits on the VinClub loyalty card or convert them into cash to pay when buying a motorbike.

Also deciding to buy an electric motorbike, Thanh Mai, a fourth-year student at Hanoi University of Culture, said: “I decided on the VinFast Feliz S model because the bike is beautiful, fits my body shape, and also reduces the worry of flooding during this rainy season. This model is now only 34.9 million VND for the battery version.”

Thanh Mai said she has been interested in environmentally friendly vehicles for a long time, especially VinFast electric motorbikes, which have received many positive responses from users. Right when she was about to graduate and start her internship, the student asked her parents to "invest" in an electric motorbike to replace her old gasoline motorbike that was "exhausting smoke" every day. It also happened to be the right time when VinFast's incentives were so good that Thanh Mai did not need to think any further.

Young people "live green, move green"

Similar to Thanh Mai, the reason many young people switch to electric motorbikes is not simply because they receive many incentives when buying a motorbike at the present time. An equally big motivation for Gen Z is a new, environmentally friendly lifestyle.

“We are facing alarming air pollution and its negative impact on public health. Riding an electric motorbike makes me feel more responsible for the city’s environment,” Minh Hue said.

Sharing the same opinion, Ms. Thu Thuy (27 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) said that switching to electric motorbikes was a very wise decision for her family.

“Riding an electric bike is economical, modern and environmentally friendly. But the advantage I see right away is that my child doesn’t have to breathe in gasoline fumes or hear noise. Moreover, I create a habit for my child so that when he grows up, he will form a green lifestyle, proactively choosing electric motorbikes or other products that contribute to reducing emissions. My family now has 3 electric motorbikes, the whole family has stopped using gasoline motorbikes,” Ms. Thuy explained.

According to research from the US Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency, each kilometer traveled by an electric scooter can reduce CO2 emissions by 0.048 kg. If each electric scooter travels 45 km/day, the amount of CO2 saved in 10 days is equivalent to the absorption capacity of a tree in a year. This means that switching to an electric scooter will help each user "plant" an additional 36 trees each year.

According to experts, the increasing number of young people switching to electric motorbikes is also a good sign for Vietnam's goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. With the support of practical policies like those implemented by VinFast, the process of popularizing electric vehicles will progress even faster.

“The annual motorbike market size is about 2.5 million new motorbikes, I use the data from 2023 as an example. Imagine all these motorbikes are electric motorbikes, that means in just one year, Vietnamese users have contributed to reducing emissions equivalent to planting 90 million new trees. That is a huge number, but if there is the cooperation of many generations, not just young people, it will be possible to do it,” said a transportation expert.
