In addition, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, the high school graduation exam is based on the old program and is for students nationwide. Not only this year, but for many years, Ho Chi Minh City has not been the locality with the highest graduation exam results in the country. That is, they focus on the subjects that they will use to apply for university admission. "If calculated by university admission block, the scores of Ho Chi Minh City students are very high," Mr. Hieu emphasized.

Further evidence, Mr. Hieu said that Ho Chi Minh City has 4 top blocks in the country: Block A (math - physics - chemistry), Block A1 (math - physics - foreign language), Block B (math - chemistry - biology), Block C (literature - history - geography). As for Block D (math - literature - foreign language), Ho Chi Minh City students ranked 8th in the country. However, according to the high school graduation exam regulations, students must take the exam according to the combination. For example, candidates use Block B to apply for university admission, but they must take the full combination of natural sciences: physics - chemistry - biology.

For these candidates, they only focus on getting high scores in chemistry and biology, and only take physics to pass the high school graduation exam. This also explains why, when calculating the scores by combination, Ho Chi Minh City is not ranked high, such as the combination of natural sciences ranked 43rd, and social sciences ranked 11th.

Also at the meeting, explaining why Ho Chi Minh City is the leading locality in the country in English for 8 consecutive years, the head of the city's education and training sector said that this is inevitable because Ho Chi Minh City is the largest economic center of the country, the conditions for learning English are very good. Parents care and invest in their children's education.

In addition, more than 90% of students in the city have learned English since grade 1. "Previously, the regulation of the Ministry of Education and Training was that students learned English from grade 6, now the city has taught English to students from grade 3 since grade 1" - Mr. Hieu said.

Math ranked 3rd in the country

The Director of the City Department of Education and Training said that in this year's high school graduation exam, many non-public schools had a 100% graduation rate, and some schools even had valedictorians nationwide.

The whole city has 84,046 candidates taking the exam, including 74,581 high school students, 9,465 continuing education students and independent students. The city has a high school graduation rate of 99.68%. In addition to the English test score being the highest in the country and maintained for 8 consecutive years. This year, the math subject has the third highest average score in the country (average score is 6.99).
