According to the 2023 global color report compiled by BASF - Germany's largest chemical company - over the past 12 months, 81% of new cars produced globally choose popular and safe colors, including white, black, gray and silver.
The most popular car paint color is still white, with Asia-Pacific being the region with the most preference for this color, with 40% of users choosing it compared to the remaining car colors. The next most popular color is black, with an average of 21% of cars leaving the factory in this color. Gray cars account for 15%, while silver also accounts for 9%.
After the four main car colors, the most popular light color is blue with a percentage of 8%. Red is second with a percentage of 4%, green is last with a percentage of over 2%. The five colors beige, brown, orange, yellow and purple all account for only around 1%.
BASF’s rankings do not distinguish between the number of cars manufactured in terms of price or the popular or luxury segment. However, the colors that account for a high percentage are often used by popular car manufacturers, while the percentage of luxury cars almost certainly has more personal tones such as: yellow, brown, orange, purple.
Many luxury car users do not care much about resale value but optimize the personalization aspect. Exterior paint color is one of the factors that most clearly shows the uniqueness and personality of the car owner.
Reasons why white is the most chosen color
White has a high safety factor in terms of reflectivity:
One of the characteristics of white painted cars is that when moving in bad weather conditions, rainy days or places with relatively weak light causing limited visibility, the white paint can reflect street lights or other vehicles' lights, making it easier to recognize and reducing the risk of accidents.
With the above advantages, according to statistics from Road Angel - a company specializing in researching and manufacturing car safety products in the UK - white or silver cars have an accident rate of less than 50%, much lower than other paint colors.
If driving in a place with good light during the day, a white car can reflect the outdoor light and make the car more eye-catching and luxurious than cars of other colors.
Better dust resistance than other colors:
In addition to the high safety factor, white cars also have good dirt resistance, so they save on cleaning costs. With white cars, even if used regularly for 2 weeks without washing, it is difficult to detect dust stains because they blend into the white color. Meanwhile, black, red, blue cars... often retain dirt.
White is more resistant to dust than other car colors.
Or even after light scratches, white cars can be covered up with polishing, but the treatment on cars with hot, dark colors is often more complicated.
White cars absorb less heat:
In the hot weather in Vietnam, cars with light tones that do not easily absorb heat are the optimal choice. The temperature inside a white car in the summer will be lower than the temperature of a dark car.
Therefore, using a white car will help the people sitting inside feel more comfortable, helping to save more as the frequency of using air conditioning is also lower than black cars.
Maintain high resale value:
White cars are the most popular on the market, even if they are used for many years, a white car can give the viewer a feeling of perfection, luxury, and elegance. Therefore, white cars retain high value when the owner wants to resell them.
With the above advantages, many people decide to buy white cars to keep the value of the car longer, without losing too much value after a period of use.
