Bananas are an indispensable fruit during Tet, used to display the five fruits and burn incense, so consumer demand has increased. However, this year, banana prices have increased sharply due to a shortage in supply in the North.

There are even beautiful bunches with round fruits, with odd numbers of fruits according to traditional concept, priced up to 400,000 - 500,000 VND/bunch.

“Banana wholesalers said that due to the scarcity of goods and damage to banana growing areas due to the impact of storm number three in September, banana prices have skyrocketed every day. The closer it gets to Tet, the higher the price will be as people will only have a day off and go shopping for Tet after the 25th. The prices of fruits and vegetables for display have also increased slightly,” Ms. Huong shared.

Ms. Mai (Van Quan - Ha Dong) shared that to display a beautiful tray of five fruits, the cost can be up to more than half a million VND.

Banana growing areas suffered heavy damage.

Talk to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tran Ngoc Tao - acting chairman of the People's Committee of Hong An commune (Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province), a growing area banana Big red banana in the North - said that for the first time in history, Hong An commune had to import bananas from other provinces to serve the consumption needs of people during Tet.

Also due to the impact of Typhoon Yagi in September, the entire banana growing area in Hong An with 250 hectares was wiped out and the damaged output was about 300,000 tons.

Of which, the banana area serving the consumption demand during Tet holiday alone, about 100,000 tons, was completely damaged, only a few tons remained. garden But the bananas are bad and of poor quality, so they are not worth mentioning. Therefore, in Hong An commune, a banana growing area, the price is up to 250,000 - 300,000 VND/beautiful bunch with 20-29 fruits.

According to Mr. Tao, due to the impact of the storm in September, it was difficult to re-establish the growing area because the crop was missed, and farmers did not have time to replant to meet the needs of Tet.

Since September, banana growing areas have been left fallow, waiting for the first month of the new year to be replanted after Tet, so banana prices have increased sharply by 4-5 times.
