On the morning of November 28, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, said that athlete Bui Xuan Nhat (22 years old, Quang Nam) had just won a gold medal at the 2023 World Vovinam Championship being held in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the draw results, the Vietnamese athlete was exempted from the first round, then consecutively defeated the Japanese opponent with an absolute score of 10 - 0, defeated the Lao athlete by knockout, and reached the final match to defeat the Cambodian athlete with a score of 6 - 1 and won the gold medal.
Bui Xuan Nhat is a young athlete from Quang Nam, considered a great hope for Vietnamese Vovinam. Previously, Bui Xuan Nhat also won many high achievements in national youth competitions.
The World Vovinam Championship took place from November 22 to November 30 at Phu Tho Stadium (HCMC). The tournament was attended by more than 650 officials, referees, coaches, and athletes from 35 countries and territories with developed Vovinam movements in the continents of Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia.
This is the tournament with the largest number of delegations and athletes participating in the history of the Vovinam World Championship since its establishment. Athletes compete in 44 sets of medals, including 26 martial arts events and 18 combat weight categories.
Recently, at the 2023 World Wushu Championship held in the US, athlete Huynh Do Dat (from Quang Nam) also competed excellently and won the final match, bringing home a gold medal for the Vietnamese team in the 70 kg weight class.
