Nguyen Van Quyet is one of 32 players called up to the Vietnamese national team to prepare for the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
Van Quyet was not named in the October friendly match, when the team lost 0-2 to China, 0-2 to Uzbekistan and 0-6 to South Korea. Previously, he was called up for the September friendly match, which also won 1-0 against Hong Kong and Syria, but did not get to play.
At Hanoi FC, Van Quyet did not play well at the beginning of the 2023-2024 season and is currently going through a series of four consecutive losses with his teammates (including three matches in the AFC Champions League and one in the V-League).

Van Quyet is also the oldest player called up this time, born in 1991, along with goalkeeper Nguyen Dinh Trieu. The youngest player is striker Nguyen Dinh Bac, born in 2004, along with four players born in 2003: Ho Van Cuong, Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Thai Son and Nguyen Thanh Nhan.
In addition to Van Quyet, the team also has the return of defenders Vu Van Thanh and Pham Xuan Manh. The other 11 players on the regular list for the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup include goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, defenders Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Thanh Binh, Que Ngoc Hai, Do Duy Manh, midfielders Do Hung Dung, Hoang Duc, Tuan Anh, strikers Pham Tuan Hai, Van Toan, Tien Linh.
The most notable absentees are midfielders Nguyen Quang Hai and Doan Van Hau due to injury . Quang Hai had a problem with his calf in the loss to Uzbekistan on October 13, while Van Hau has not recovered from the pain in his foot after finishing V-League 2023. Cong Phuong is also not on the list, due to not being able to play for Yokohama FC in J-League 1.

Hanoi Police Club contributed the most players with seven, followed by Hanoi FC (6). Next were Viettel (5), Binh Duong (3), Hai Phong, PVF-CAND (2), Binh Dinh, SLNA, HAGL, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Quang Nam, Da Nang (1). Of which, Da Nang and PVF-CAND play in the First Division.
The team will gather at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center right after the third round of the V-League ends on Sunday, November 5. The Hanoi FC and Hai Phong players will gather four days later because they have to compete in the Asian Cup.
On November 12, Vietnam left for the Philippines to prepare for the match against the host on November 16 at the Rizal Memorial artificial turf stadium. After that, the team returned home to welcome Iraq on November 21 at My Dinh Stadium.
The second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup - Asia region includes 36 teams divided into nine groups of four teams. The teams will compete in a double round-robin from November 16, 2023 to June 11, 2024, selecting the nine first-place teams and nine second-place teams to enter the third qualifying round.
Coach Philippe Troussier also took advantage of the November gathering to prepare for the 2024 AFC U23 Championship finals. He called up eight players from this generation to train with the national team, including Cao Van Binh, Tran Manh Quynh, Tran Nam Hai (SLNA), Nguyen Quang Huy, Nguyen Thai Quoc Cuong (Ba Ria Vung Tau), Ha Van Phuong (CAHN), Vo Nguyen Hoang (Thanh Hoa) and Bui Vi Hao (Binh Duong).
