Striker Nguyen Van Quyet had a chance to finish the match but missed, causing Hanoi FC to lose 3-5 to Hai Phong in the second round of V-League 2023-2024.

*Goals: Tagueu 16' 36' 90'+12 – Viet Hung 3', Hoang Nam 60', Lucao 77' 85' 90'+3.

In the 57th minute, when the score was 2-1 in favor of Hanoi, Van Quyet had a chance at the penalty spot. He fired a low shot into the middle but was blocked by goalkeeper Dinh Trieu. Before that, the referee consulted VAR and reviewed the video for nearly four minutes before determining that Pham Xuan Manh had been fouled by Anh Hung in the penalty area.

Three minutes after Van Quyet missed, Hanoi started to pay the price. From a right wing attack, Huu Son crossed accurately for Luong Hoang Nam - 1.6 m tall - to cut in and head the ball to tie the score at 2-2. In the 77th minute, still from the left wing, Joseph Mpande passed to Lucao do Break - a former Hanoi player - who controlled it neatly with his thigh and then swung his leg to kick the ball to hit the inside of the post, helping Hai Phong reverse the score.

In the last five minutes, Lucao continued to torment Hanoi's defense. First, he turned the ball to his left foot and then curled it in, leaving Quan Van Chuan unable to react, raising the score to 4-2 in the minute. In the 90th minute, the Brazilian striker earned a penalty when he was blocked by Dau Van Toan, then he himself successfully executed it to complete his hat-trick.

In the eight minutes of extra time, Hanoi FC managed to score another goal through Joel Tagueu to end the match with a score of 3-5. In the first half, Tagueu scored a double in the 16th and 36th minutes to put the home team ahead 2-1, after Trieu Viet Hung opened the score in the 3rd minute for Hai Phong.

This is Hanoi's fourth consecutive loss this season. Previously, they lost 2-4 to Pohang Steelers, 0-6 to Urawa Red Diamonds and 1-2 to Wuhan Three Towns all in the group stage of the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League.

Meanwhile, Hai Phong under coach Chu Dinh Nghiem defeated Hanoi for the first time at Hang Day Stadium. They rose to third place with four points, equal to Hanoi Police but with a lower goal difference (+2 compared to +3), while Hanoi ranked 13th without a point.

The match at Hang Day Stadium tonight also recorded a rare incident when a lighting system broke down before the second half began. After a 40-minute delay, the problem was not resolved, but the match supervisor and the referee team assessed that the lighting was still sufficient for the match, so the match continued.
