(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the morning of April 2, under the chairmanship of Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Van Tung, the City People's Committee held a regular online meeting in March, assessing the results of implementing socio-economic tasks in March and the first quarter of 2024; proposing directions, tasks and solutions for the coming time.

Attending the meeting were Vice Chairmen of the People's Council; City People's Committee; Deputy Head of the City's National Assembly Delegation; members of the City People's Committee; leaders of Departments, branches and units.

The meeting was connected online to local bridges with the participation of Secretaries, Chairmen of People's Councils and People's Committees of districts.

In the first quarter of 2024, the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is estimated to increase by 9.32%, 1.65 times higher than the national average; ranking first among the 5 centrally-run cities, ranking 7th in the country. The industrial production index (IIP) is estimated to increase by 10.38%, 2.22 times higher than the national average (5.67%), ranking 12th in the country, ranking first among the 5 centrally-run cities.

State budget revenue in the area reached more than 32,864 billion VND; of which domestic revenue reached 18,943 billion VND, up 132.94% over the same period, equal to 50.41% of the central government's estimate and 42.10% of the city's People's Council's estimate. Export turnover was about 7.74 billion USD, up 18.45%; cargo output through the port was estimated at more than 35.7 million tons, up 7.96%. The number of tourists was more than 1,601 thousand, up 10.92%. Total social investment capital reached more than 38,159 billion VND, up 8.13%. Foreign investment attraction reached 253.35 million USD. The city's public investment disbursement rate was estimated at 2,482 billion VND, equal to 14.5% of the plan assigned by the Prime Minister, equal to 12.39% of the city's plan.

However, in addition to the achieved results, the progress of some important projects is still slow, and the progress must be extended due to problems in planning adjustment, land use plans, land use conversion, site clearance, environmental impact assessment, and total investment. In the city, traffic accidents tend to increase and become more complicated, and there have been some fires causing great damage to property, affecting people's lives and activities.

At the meeting, leaders of departments, branches and localities focused on discussing important tasks such as: Planning Tien Lang airport; Nam Do Son port, Van Uc channel; preparation for Tan Vu - Lach Huyen 2 bridge project; establishment of Southern Economic Zone; Project on investment policy to adapt to climate change; completion of coastal highway through Hai Phong... these are the important foundation and premise for the city's breakthrough development.

Regarding the complicated traffic accident situation when the number of cases, deaths and injuries are all higher than the same period, the Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the entire political system from the city to districts, departments and branches to get involved, focus and be more drastic. In particular, consider the responsibility of school principals if students violate traffic safety regulations; along with that, continue to strictly handle violations related to alcohol concentration, including considering criminal prosecution for cases causing serious consequences according to regulations. The Chairman also emphasized the direction, the city will arrange and concentrate funding to completely handle black spots of traffic accidents in the city. Regarding fire prevention and fighting, the City Police and localities are assigned to focus on propaganda to people, preventing fire and explosion incidents in residential areas./.
