"I think people should be allowed to use Bitcoin. If I become President of the United States, I will protect the right to use things like Bitcoin," Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said on May 24 when announcing his candidacy for US president.
“I believe that if we continue with the current regime for another four years, Bitcoin will face the risk of a recession. However, if I assume the position of President, I will protect Bitcoin,” DeSantis said.
Mr. DeSantis is considered a strong opponent of former President Donald Trump for the Republican Party's representative position in the race for the White House in 2024. Mr. Trump has started his re-election campaign since mid-November 2022.
Elon Musk, although praising DeSantis many times, still emphasized that "he has no intention of officially supporting any presidential candidate at this time."
