Due to a part of the lane being blocked for construction, the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway and National Highway 51 were congested for a long time in the evening of September 15.
In the afternoon of the same day, the flow of cars from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City via the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway was crowded. Because half of the expressway lane on Long Thanh bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai was blocked to repair the expansion joint, the road was restricted and vehicles had to move very slowly.

From the highway, vehicles turning onto Highway 51 also lined up. On Highway 51, from Ba Ria-Vung Tau to Bien Hoa, the traffic jam stretched through Phuoc Tan ward.
This situation has been going on for a whole week. At times, the traffic police had to close the entrance to the highway from Highway 51. Highway 51 was also jammed for a long time, with thousands of cars and motorbikes covering all four lanes, moving slowly.
According to the Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 6 - Traffic Police Department, the traffic jam was caused by construction work blocking the lanes at Long Thanh Bridge. The force had to alternately open and close the entrance to the highway from National Highway 51, but due to the heavy traffic volume, congestion still occurred.

During the construction period until September 24, the unit recommends that drivers should go from National Highway 51 to Vung Tau intersection to return to Ho Chi Minh City instead of taking the expressway. At the same time, the traffic police also arranged many traffic diversion teams to reduce prolonged congestion.
It is known that the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is 55 km long, has 4 lanes, 2 emergency lanes, and was put into operation in phase 1 in 2015. On the route, Long Thanh Bridge across Dong Nai River, connecting Thu Duc City to Long Thanh District is the largest bridge. The bridge is more than 2.3 km long, 19.7 m wide, with two lanes in each direction and a design speed of 100 km/h.
