According to Forbes , this tactic of blocking the front and rear refers to shooting at the front and rear vehicles in a convoy, in order to trap the remaining vehicles in the middle, so that the attack can continue.

This is not a new tactic, but it can cause heavy damage to the opponent even if it is not completely effective, according to Forbes.

Ukraine used this tactic in Brovary when it stopped a Russian tank column outside Kiev in March 2022. In February this year, Ukraine continued to use this tactic in Vuhledar.

Ukraine used this tactic again this weekend in Hladkivka, Kherson. A convoy of dozens of Russian military trucks, including Urals and Kamaz, appeared to be transporting ammunition to the front line when Ukrainian missiles exploded in front and behind the convoy.

The missile used by Ukraine appears to be an M30 fired from a HIMARS system, which contains 180,000 tungsten alloy fragments. When detonated, the weapon will scatter metal fragments over a wide area, causing widespread damage to light, poorly protected targets.

The danger with the M30 in this attack is that it targets weapons vehicles. These metal fragments almost immediately trigger a secondary explosion as they penetrate the vehicle's trunk and hit the weapons inside the vehicle.

The initial and secondary explosions appear to have cost Russia 16 trucks, Forbes reported, citing sources at the scene.

To attack effectively, Ukraine, in addition to using M30s, also mobilized ground reconnaissance UAVs to accurately locate the target, which was the Russian convoy.

According to observers, the attack in Hladkivka was possible because Ukrainian UAVs penetrated deep into Russian-controlled areas.

If that is true, it will create challenges for Russia in the coming time if Moscow does not strengthen its air defense capabilities to regain absolute control of airspace from the enemy.

Russia knows the dangers of having its supply lines attacked. Last year, it was forced to withdraw from the city of Kherson after HIMARS cut off ammunition lines to the front lines.

This year, Kiev will try to cut off Russian forces' supply chains as cold weather sets in and push Moscow's forces out of Ukraine, said Volodymyr Fito, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Ground Forces.

"Weather will play a role in military operations. If it starts to rain, attack aircraft and UAVs will be deployed less often. Military vehicles and equipment will also be more difficult to move. However, artillery will still be used as much as it is now," he predicted.

"Ukraine's main task will be to cut off the supply chain of Russian forces, both on the front and behind the front lines. If we can do that, I think the cold and rainy weather will help us push Russia out of Ukraine," he said.
