Fighting returns on the banks of the Dnipro River
"The enemy has carried out unsuccessful attacks to gain a foothold on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River," TASS quoted the Russian Defense Ministry as saying.
However, Russian military bloggers claim that the Ukrainian side managed to cross the river and remain on the Russian-controlled side.
A video clip shared on the Telegram channel WarGonzo shows Russian forces continuing to shell Ukrainian units in the darkness as the Ukrainians land near the village of Krynky on the east bank of the river. The channel said fighting is still ongoing in the area.
Meanwhile, the Rybar channel, which is linked to the Russian military, said on the afternoon of October 19 that Ukrainian forces had managed to consolidate their position in the village and continue to advance on the Russian-controlled part of the river.
Ukraine presidential adviser says aid delays prolong conflict
Meanwhile, the Kyiv government has not commented on reports that its forces have crossed the river.
The Institute for the Study of War (USA) believes that Ukrainian forces are likely to maintain a limited presence in some areas on the eastern bank and near the shore.
On the same day, Ukrainian forces said they had advanced another 400 meters southwest of the village of Verbove in Zaporizhzhia, but Russia has not commented on this information.
At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had shot down the 500th Ukrainian military aircraft since the beginning of the special operation. Ukraine has not yet responded to Russia's information.

Russian, Ukrainian presidents meet with chiefs of general staff
Speaking to the press on October 20, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov revealed that President Vladimir Putin had arrived in Rostov-on-Don, headquarters of the Russian military's Southern Command.
This is also the command responsible for carrying out special military operations in Ukraine.
According to the spokesman, the leader met with General Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and heard a report from the commander in charge of the operation in Ukraine on the progress of implementation.
President Putin: Transfer of ATACMS to Ukraine was a US mistake
Mr Putin also met and held meetings with other senior Russian military officials, but Mr Peskov did not provide details about the meeting.
Several Russian media outlets published video clips showing General Gerasimov reporting to President Putin that "the joint forces in Ukraine are deploying according to the campaign plan".
Meanwhile, the Office of the President of Ukraine announced that Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky visited Kherson and Mykolaiv, and discussed the situation on the fronts with Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhnyi, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Odessa commanders, the commander of the marines.
The meeting is said to have focused on the fighting in Avdiivka and Kupiansk, Ukraine's campaign in the south, and the supply of weapons to the front lines.
Mr. Zelensky also inspected the border guard unit in Kherson province and discussed the situation and needs of border guards there.

President Biden requests massive aid for Ukraine
In Washington DC, speaking to the American people on October 20, President Joe Biden called on the US to quickly provide military aid to both Ukraine and Israel.
Under the massive $106 billion national security aid package, the leader offered $61 billion for Ukraine and $14 billion for Israel, if the US wants to secure benefits for generations to come.
It remains unclear how President Joe Biden can convince the US Congress to spend $61 billion for Ukraine.
However, Mr. Biden's request came at a time when the House of Representatives was still in a "headless snake" state. The third vote on the evening of October 20 (Vietnam time) continued to bring defeat to Congressman Jim Jordan, with the number of Republican congressmen voting against him increasing to 25.
On the same day, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics urged Western countries to increase the capacity of their domestic defense industries to ensure sufficient production of weapons and ammunition for these countries and Ukraine.
"Whether we like it or not, Europe must arm itself," Rinkevics told TV3, adding that talk was not enough and that EU members must be prepared to accept the cost of strengthening their defence capabilities.
