In a statement on its Telegram channel, the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Service said that about 12,000 North Korean soldiers, including 500 officers and 3 generals, were present in Russia and training activities were taking place at 5 military bases.
The announcement said: "Moscow has appointed Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov to be responsible for controlling the training and adjustment of the North Korean army."
Meanwhile, Kyodo News quoted a Ukrainian military source as saying that about 2,000 North Korean soldiers are moving to western Russia, bordering Ukraine, after completing their training.
Russia and North Korea have not commented on the accusations. Pyongyang previously said that regarding military cooperation with Moscow, it "does not feel the need to comment on baseless stereotypes" aimed at tarnishing its image and undermining the cooperative, friendly and legitimate relations between the two sovereign states.
On the same day, during talks with his Polish counterpart who was visiting Seoul, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared that Seoul "will not sit idly by" as Pyongyang deployed thousands of troops to help Russia in its military campaign in Ukraine.
On the United Nations (UN) side, on October 24, speaking in Washington, Mr. Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said that the world's largest multilateral organization has officially spoken out against "further militarization of the conflict in Ukraine by any party."
Mr. Haq also affirmed that any violation of sanctions related to North Korea will be subject to supervision and handling by the sanctions committee of the UN Security Council.
During a meeting the same day with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Secretary-General Guterres once again emphasized the UN's tough stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
According to him, it is necessary to establish freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, not only in the interests of Ukraine and Russia, but also for global food and energy security.
Earlier in the day, President Putin said Moscow was ready to consider options to end the conflict, as long as they reflected the real situation.
