UAVs and AI are top priorities in weapons modernization

North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on March 27 that North Korean President Kim Jong Un supervised the test of a suicide unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and declared that UAVs and AI must be the top priority in developing modern weapons.

Kim Jong Un gave the order while directing defense scientific research projects of the UAV Technology Complex and the electronic warfare research group on March 25-26.

According to KCNA, Chairman Kim Jong Un also inspected newly upgraded reconnaissance UAV models, capable of detecting enemy tactical targets and activities on land and at sea.

He stressed the importance of promoting a long-term and synchronized national program to take the lead in the race to develop intelligent UAVs for military purposes.
