According to The Sun, Dutch company Ballinno has filed a lawsuit against the European Football Federation UEFA and its partner Kinexon for illegally using offside detection technology in the VAR system.
The first hearing of this case will take place on June 3 in Hamburg, Germany. Meanwhile, the opening match of EURO 2024 between host Germany and Scotland will take place at 02:00 on the morning of June 15 (Vietnam time).
Ballinno claims it has been granted a patent for its offside detection method and system since 2011. The company filed a lawsuit on April 18, after contacting UEFA for compensation last year but receiving no response.
If the court grants the injunction in Ballinno's case, UEFA could have to remove VAR from EURO 2024. However, a UEFA spokesperson expressed confidence that the tournament will still have VAR.
"We cannot comment on ongoing litigation. However, UEFA is not overly concerned by the Ballinno company's complaint," said a UEFA spokesperson.
