Thanh Hoa province currently has over 6,000 fishing vessels, of which nearly 1,100 are vessels 15 m or longer in length (participating in offshore fishing). According to regulations, 100% of the output exploited from offshore fishing vessels must be monitored for traceability at ports through log reports for each fishing trip. This is also one of the mandatory requirements for the EC to remove the "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood. However, for many reasons, output monitoring at fishing ports is still low. According to statistics from the Thanh Hoa Fisheries Department, in the first 3 months of 2024, the total marine output of the province reached over 25,500 tons. Of which, the output monitored through 3 designated fishing ports including: Hoa Loc port, Hau Loc district; Lach Hoi fishing port, Sam Son city and Lach Bang fishing port, Nghi Son town only reached over 1,400 tons.

Mr. Le Van Sang, Deputy Head of Thanh Hoa Fisheries Sub-Department

Mr. Le Van Sang, Deputy Head of Thanh Hoa Fisheries Sub-Department, said: "The fishing port management boards have guided and organized fishermen to record and report the output through the port quickly, promptly and accurately. Along with that, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is coordinating with the Department of Fisheries to organize training for ship owners on software applications and electronic diary recording products so that fishermen can widely apply them."

In the 5th inspection on anti-IUU fishing scheduled for June, the EC inspection team will focus on overcoming previous recommendations, such as: control and handling of fishing vessels violating foreign waters, control of fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and operating at sea, monitoring and tracing the origin of aquatic products from exploitation through recording and submitting fishing logs at fishing ports, etc. Therefore, transparency of information from the management of fishing vessels entering and leaving ports to loading and unloading goods, and monitoring output at ports will ensure the implementation of the Fisheries Law and EC recommendations achieve the best results.
