Quang Yen Town: Developing modern agriculture associated with building new rural areas

To effectively implement the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, Quang Yen Town has focused on leading, directing, and mobilizing local people and businesses to promote the application of modern science and technology in agricultural production.

Mr. Dong Quang Cuong's family (Cam La commune, Quang Yen town) is one of the leading households applying science and technology to production and livestock breeding processes, creating high income.

From a small, fragmented duck farming household, in 2016, when the New Rural Development Program was focused on by the local government, Mr. Cuong's family boldly borrowed capital to invest in 2 closed-off barns of 2,000m² to develop duck farming. In 2022, he continued to invest nearly 5 billion VND to expand the duck farm with 2 closed, modern "cold houses", the largest in Quang Yen town.

Up to now, after many years of working with the duck farming model, Mr. Cuong's family has a fortune of over 3 hectares of livestock farm with a system of automatic barns and incubators, applying modern science and technology, closed circulation, and being environmentally friendly. Every month, his family's farm supplies the market with about 120,000 eggs and 2 tons of commercial duck meat, creating stable jobs for nearly 10 local workers. In particular, taking advantage of manure from duck farming, in early October 2023, Mr. Cuong's family continued to allocate 500m² of land in the garden to further develop the worm farming model. Currently, the worms are adapting and developing well, opening up a new direction, creating additional income for the family.

The central road of Hiep Hoa commune (Quang Yen town) was renovated and upgraded with the joint efforts and contributions of the people.

Mr. Cuong's family model is just one of many models applying modern, environmentally friendly science and technology to the production and breeding process, creating high income in Quang Yen town in recent years. Thereby creating a premise for the town to soon complete the goal of building advanced new rural areas.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Ba, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Quang Yen Town, said: Determining that developing modern agriculture associated with building new rural areas are two important tasks, in recent years, Quang Yen Town has focused on effectively promoting local advantages to develop concentrated agricultural production areas; mobilizing people to apply scientific and technological advances into production to create goods with large volumes and high economic value.

Quang Yen also focuses on improving the quality of agricultural products and brands for agricultural products. Up to now, the town has formed hundreds of hectares of production according to VietGAP standards, with 37 products recognized as provincial OCOP products; of which 9 products are regularly consumed through e-commerce platforms such as shopee.vn; tiki.vn; lazada.vn; tiktok shop...

With strong, flexible and appropriate leadership and direction, in recent years, the agricultural sector of Quang Yen town has had positive developments and achieved many remarkable results.

Notably, in 2024, although storm No. 3 (Yagi) caused great damage to the development of the agricultural sector, thanks to proactive implementation of production plans, disease prevention plans... the agricultural production value of the town for the whole year still reached 2,256 billion VND, reaching 93.1% of the plan, down 8.7% compared to 2023.

Rapid and sustainable agricultural development following the green growth model, ensuring the ecological environment has created the premise for the rural areas of Quang Yen town to develop comprehensively, contributing to helping the locality soon complete the criteria for building new rural areas, building increasingly rich and civilized rural areas.
