Youth Union bases and school unions in Ha Tinh have actively and effectively implemented the Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms to each youth union member.

In recent years, the smoking rate in Ha Tinh has decreased significantly in both sexes. However, in the face of the fact that many new tobacco products such as shisha, heated tobacco, electronic cigarettes, and tobacco products... have been attracting a segment of young people, the provincial Youth Union at all levels has continued to implement many information and propaganda measures to raise awareness among youth union members.

Accordingly, 100% of youth unions at all levels and school unions have organized for cadres, youth union members and students to sign a commitment to prevent and combat the harmful effects of tobacco. Through the media and social networks, the message "Say no to tobacco smoke" has been deployed in many direct and online forms, creating a positive spread.

The Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has regularly coordinated with sectors, agencies and units to organize propaganda on tobacco harm prevention among young union members. In particular, tobacco prevention content has also been integrated into training programs for unions at all levels and school unions. Along with that, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has directed all levels of the Youth Union to coordinate with the Department of Health, relevant agencies and units to organize propaganda on tobacco harm, the current situation of tobacco and e-cigarette use in schools for cadres and young union members.

During the implementation process, many units have had initiatives and creative ways to increase the effectiveness of communication on tobacco harm prevention such as: organizing propaganda through creating video clips and infographics; creating news, articles and reports to disseminate the content of the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control posted on mass media channels and social networking systems;

Organizing painting contests to promote tobacco harm prevention, golden bell contests, skit contests... to create a useful playground for cadres and youth union members to express their voices and desires to live and study in a healthy, smoke-free environment. Organizing an online contest "Vietnamese youth say no to tobacco and e-cigarettes", attracting young people to participate by filming short clips with messages about tobacco harm prevention and posting them on the social network TikTok.

Youth Union organizations also focus on building pilot models of "Smoke-free Environment", "Smoke-free Workplace"...

Secretary of the Youth Union of Nguyen Du High School (Nghi Xuan) Dinh Thi Huong Dieu said: “Propaganda on tobacco harm prevention has become an annual activity of the school’s Youth Union. In 2023, the school’s Youth Union coordinated with professional groups to organize the extracurricular activity “Smoking - a danger to public health”. Through propaganda paintings and vivid stage performances, students and Youth Union members of the school conveyed the message of tobacco harm prevention, especially e-cigarettes. The program has created a positive response among students and Youth Union members of the school”.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Anh, an official of the Ha Tinh City Youth Union, informed: “The City Youth Union and grassroots units have actively responded to the movement to build a civilized, smoke-free office culture. “No smoking” signs are placed in meeting rooms, offices, on the premises of agencies and units... In particular, at the City Youth Union's digital transformation projects such as: Mega Horizon Digital Data Bank, Digital Law Library... all have integrated legal regulations on preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco”...

Ha Tinh City Youth Union posted no-smoking signs and QR codes with information about legal regulations on tobacco harm prevention at agency headquarters.

According to the report, from 2013 to present, the Youth Union at all levels has published more than 10,000 news and articles on social networks, electronic information portals, newspapers, radio, etc. The content focuses on policies and laws on preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco; the harmful effects of tobacco on the health of users, children, pregnant women, etc.

The harmful effects of production, trading, transportation and use of fake and smuggled cigarettes; measures to quit smoking; rights and obligations of agencies, organizations and individuals in preventing and combating the harmful effects of tobacco... contribute to raising awareness of young people about the harmful effects of tobacco and good compliance with legal regulations.

In the coming time, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee will continue to diversify forms of propaganda on tobacco harm prevention and control, focusing on digital platforms and multimedia communication to attract the attention of young people.
Organize more training activities to improve physical and mental health, build a healthy lifestyle for cadres and young union members, contributing to protecting the health of themselves, their families and the community.
