Thanh Liet Temple is located on the bank of Lam River and was built in the post-Le Dynasty to worship the gods who have contributed to protecting the country and the people, especially the gods associated with the river region: Long Vuong, Ha Ba, Sat Hai Dai Vuong Hoang Ta Thon, Nguyen Bieu, Son Lieu Doc Cuoc...
The temple consists of beautiful architectural works, elaborate carvings, and preserves many unique and ancient sacrificial objects and artifacts. The temple was recognized as a National Historical, Cultural and Architectural Relic in 1997.
After the recent restoration and embellishment project (2022-2023), Thanh Liet Temple has a new, spacious appearance, convenient for cultural activities and organizing festival activities.
Thanh Liet Temple Festival is held annually on the 5th and 6th of the second lunar month to preserve, maintain and promote the cultural values of the nation, commemorate the merits of the gods, demonstrate the tradition of remembering the source of water and meet the spiritual and cultural needs of people and tourists from all over.
Thanh Liet Temple Festival is a traditional folk cultural activity bearing the mark of fishermen in the downstream area of Lam River.
The highlight of the festival is the procession of the god and the fish praying ceremony on the river. Early in the morning, the procession moves from the temple to the Lam River. Then, the water procession is carried out on a large fleet of boats, decorated with colorful flags and flowers, including the main boat setting up an altar to worship the water god, the other boats carrying palanquins, carrying people, etc.
The ceremony to worship the gods on Lam River is to pray for favorable weather, fishery development, and favorable fishing. The procession and praying ceremony on Lam River lasts for more than 5-6 hours, from early morning until past noon.
Thanh Liet Temple Festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2018.
This year's festival program takes place over 2 days, March 14-15, with many sacred and attractive activities such as incense offering ceremony, opening ceremony, proclamation ceremony, god procession ceremony, great sacrifice ceremony, sports competitions, folk games...
The sports tournament has 3 competitions: volleyball, tug of war, and chess with the participation of nearly 200 athletes from 9 hamlets in Xuan Lam commune.
Thanh Liet Temple Festival is imbued with the cultural and religious identity of the river region, is a place to preserve and maintain the water god worship belief and reflects the professional thinking of the people in the lower Lam River region.
