Tuan Hai was the one who opened the scoring for the Vietnamese team in the 8th minute, after he lifted the ball over the head of goalkeeper Patiwat Khammai of the Thai team, helping the Vietnamese team take a 1-0 lead.

In the 82nd minute, Tuan Hai kicked the ball, causing Thai defender Pansa Hemviboon to fumble and score an own goal, helping the Vietnamese team equalize the score 2-2.
This was the turning point that helped the Vietnamese team win 3-2 in the second leg at Rajamangala Stadium, winning 5-3 overall after two legs of the 2024 AFF Cup final.
After the match, Tuan Hai said: "My feelings are hard to describe when I had to go through the suffocating moments in this match. Today, we had to compete on the large stadium of the Thai team, so we encountered many difficulties."

After the victory on the evening of January 5, the Vietnamese team won the AFF Cup for the third time, after the first time in 2008 and the second time in 2018. This is the first time the Vietnamese team won the Southeast Asian championship after defeating Thailand right on Thailand's home field.
