Starting a business as a bicycle repairman
At the end of the year, despite being very busy, Director of Nhan Do Mechanical Company Limited (Quy Hop town, Quy Hop district, Nghe An province) Le Van Thoa still took time to share with Lao Dong Newspaper about his startup process.
Accordingly, around 1990, Le Van Thoa's parents, who were Vietnamese expatriates from Thailand and originally from Quang Binh, returned to Vietnam and migrated to build a new economic zone in Quy Hop town. This was the mineral capital of Nghe An, but at that time it was still wild.
To make a living, Mr. Thoa worked as a bicycle repairman, then switched to repairing motorbikes, then cars.
During this period, mining businesses began to operate strongly, requiring repairs of construction machinery. Le Van Thoa continued to develop this service profession and in 2007 he established Nhan Do Mechanical Company Limited with 10 employees.
During the process of repairing machinery, Nhan Do Company often encounters situations where large machines do not have spare parts, facing the risk of being sold as scrap metal, which is very wasteful.
Le Van Thoa was determined to find a solution. In 2004, he invented a hole boring machine.
By 2008, he continued to improve and perfect the machine, which could restore damaged bearings, ball bearings, and construction machine joints. The machine was granted a patent by the Department of Intellectual Property - Ministry of Science and Technology, to the great joy of Mr. Thoa and the whole company.
With endless passion, not satisfied with initial success, Le Van Thoa continued to invent manual forging hammers and stone lathes with superior features such as low cost and high productivity.
To date, Mr. Le Van Thoa has owned 8 products granted patents or exclusive utility solutions by the Intellectual Property Office, including: stone lathe, cargo cable car, wire stone cutting machine, forging hammer, stone prying bucket, mobile hole boring machine, self-propelled diesel wire stone cutting machine, stone peeling, washing and classifying machine.
Aspiration to reach the top
The products of Nhan Do Mechanical Company Ltd., invented by Mr. Le Van Thoa, were gradually accepted by the market, initially by businesses in Quy Hop district. The good news spread far and wide, and many domestic and international businesses signed contracts to buy products of Nhan Do Mechanical Company Ltd.
“Science and technology are developing rapidly, the mechanical machinery market is constantly changing, many new products with modern features appear, so the competition is extremely fierce. To be chosen and paid for by partner businesses, it requires constant efforts to meet extremely strict requirements and standards” - Mr. Le Van Thoa shared.
To be successful, Mr. Le Van Thoa had to go through extremely difficult days of experimentation and experimentation, through many failures to have the career he has today. Especially, for him, the difficulty was even greater because he did not have a formal education, did not have a degree and knowledge base like other engineers.
"To be successful in invention, passion and effort are not enough, you also need to have the will to overcome difficulties and challenges, and the will to constantly strive forward" - said inventor Le Van Thoa.
To challenge his own limits, in 2015, Le Van Thoa started building a helicopter, and had a test run on the runway. Although not successful, through this challenge, Le Van Thoa learned a lot.
With many useful inventions, continuously in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, Mr. Le Van Thoa was honored in the Nghe An Science and Technology Innovation Award. He was also awarded the Medal for the Cause of Science and Technology, the title of Vietnamese Craft Village Artisan.
Mr. Tran Quoc Thanh - former Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Nghe An province said: "It can be said that Mr. Le Van Thoa - Director of Nhan Do Mechanical Company Limited is the king of inventions of Nghe An province. His success is a great lesson in the will to constantly strive to improve in creative work, contributing significantly to improving productivity and labor efficiency".
