TURNING POINT WHEN DEFEATING TRAN Q QUYET C HIEN
Up to now, Tran Duc Minh still does not dare to believe that he can become the second Vietnamese player to win the 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup. Sharing with Thanh Nien , the 43-year-old player excitedly said: "In the career of an athlete, being able to compete and step onto the highest podium of a world-class playground, that is more than enough. I don't know what the future will bring, but this is my lifelong title."
Tran Duc Minh won the World Cup after defeating very strong opponents.
Duc Minh modestly shared that achieving the goal of reaching the main round (round 32) was a great success for him. However, the Hue native played better and better. Duc Minh's excitement also came from his compatriot Tran Quyet Chien. "Through each match, I feel like I'm playing better and getting into better shape. The victory over Tran Quyet Chien in round 16 was a big turning point, helping my spirit and confidence increase a lot. Chien is at the top level in the world. Therefore, if I have enough confidence to beat Chien, then when I meet another opponent, it will be the same," the new champion of the 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup expressed.
C TRANSFORMING TACTICS FOR THE AUDIENCE
Tran Duc Minh shared that besides his training efforts and self-belief, the great motivation that helps him compete well is the audience. The enthusiastic cheering at Nguyen Du Stadium (HCMC) has helped the 43-year-old player gain more strength, confidence and create invisible pressure on his opponents.

The audience was also the reason why Duc Minh decided to change his playing style, from tight defense in the semi-finals to a preemptive attack in the finals and achieved a satisfactory result. "I executed every stroke perfectly thanks to the audience accompanying me throughout the competition with strong opponents. I told myself that I could not let the audience down. In the semi-finals, the match was not good, causing me to sleep, I felt very guilty. Therefore, in the finals, in addition to winning or losing, I wanted to dedicate beautiful strokes to the audience. I wanted to play to the best of my ability, to show my skills to the audience, so that their time coming to watch would not be in vain," Duc Minh said.
G AT NEARLY 40 YEARS OLD, I FOUND OUT FOR 3-Cushion Carom Billiards
To be where he is today, Tran Duc Minh has gone through many difficulties on the path of pursuing his passion for billiards. The Hue native started playing professional billiards quite late compared to his colleagues.
He revealed: "I learned about and liked 3-cushion carom when watching competitions on TV. Since 2012, when Vietnamese players went abroad to compete and the 3-cushion movement became popular, I started practicing playing with my friends. That was also when I fell in love with this sport. Before pursuing billiards, I worked for a company in Bien Hoa (Dong Nai) and Binh Duong. There was a time when I made a living by making ham and sausage to wholesale to restaurants. I did this job and played semi-professional billiards since 2015. In 2019, after winning the runner-up position in the national tournament, I had additional income from sponsors, so I stopped all other jobs to play professional billiards."
Before winning the Ho Chi Minh City 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup, Tran Duc Minh won the national championship in 2020 and the 2022 National Sports Festival. He currently has a billiards club in Thu Dau Mot, Binh Duong. Recently, this player opened a 3-cushion carom gym that he himself instructs, with the desire to impart his experience to young people with passion, contributing to the development of the movement in Vietnam.
P PRIZE 16,000 EURO
With the World Cup championship, Tran Duc Minh was awarded 16,000 euros (about 442 million VND) and became the second Vietnamese player to win a World Cup, after Tran Quyet Chien (3 times World Cup champion). Notably, Tran Quyet Chien won the World Cup for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City in 2018, just like Duc Minh this year.
