(Chinhphu.vn) - According to the National Assembly's scheduled working program, from 4:30 p.m. on May 21, the National Assembly will meet on personnel work and conduct the process of electing the President.

General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, was introduced by the Central Committee to be elected by the 15th National Assembly to hold the position of President.

Specifically, the National Assembly Standing Committee will submit to the National Assembly a list of nominees for the National Assembly to elect the President. The National Assembly will discuss this list of nominees in the Delegation.

On the morning of May 22, the National Assembly Standing Committee reported on the explanation and reception of opinions of National Assembly deputies discussing at the Delegation on the nomination list for the National Assembly to elect the President.

After discussing and voting to approve the list to elect the President, the National Assembly proceeds to elect the President by secret ballot.

Next, the Counting Committee reports the vote counting results.

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly submits to the National Assembly a draft Resolution on electing the President for the National Assembly to discuss and vote on to pass the Resolution on electing the President.

Immediately after the vote to pass the Resolution, according to the provisions of the Constitution, the new President will take the oath of office and deliver an inaugural speech.

Also on May 22, the National Assembly will conduct the approval process for members of the National Defense and Security Council at the proposal of the President.

Regarding the personnel to be elected to the position of President, at the 9th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee held on the morning of May 16, the Central Committee gave its opinion on the personnel to be elected by the 15th National Assembly to hold the position of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2021-2026 term.

Specifically, the Central Committee unanimously recommended General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, to be elected by the 15th National Assembly to hold the position of President.
