Media, legal advice integrated with mock trial on preventing and combating domestic violence

On April 23, in two communes: Trinh Tuong, Coc My (Bat Xat), the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union coordinated with lawyers from the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association - Association for the Protection of Children's Rights to organize direct legal consultation integrated with a mock trial on preventing and combating domestic violence, and preventing and combating abuse of women and children.

Attending the consultation conference were representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union; the Women's Union of Lao Cai province and Bat Xat district; and more than 400 women's union members of Trinh Tuong and Coc My communes.

The content of the mock trial is based on real case files related to intentional acts of causing injury, torturing wife and children, and violating the provisions of the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence with serious consequences.

At the mock trial, the Trial Panel focused on clearly analyzing the conditions, purpose, motive of the crime as well as the nature and extent of the defendant's actions; the aggravating and mitigating circumstances of the defendant's criminal responsibility. After listening to the analysis, the defendant recognized his criminal behavior and hoped that the Trial Panel would reduce his sentence.

The communication and legal advice associated with the mock trial on domestic violence prevention and control aims to create a widespread communication campaign on domestic violence prevention and control. At the same time, it attracts attention, promotes the role, responsibility and proactive participation of individuals, families, communities, agencies and organizations in strengthening the power, creating opportunities for women and children to develop comprehensively, preventing and responding to violence and abuse against women and children.
