Vietnam began their 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign with a 5-0 win over Laos. The biggest win under coach Kim Sang-sik helped Vietnam temporarily top Group F after the first round of matches.
Chau Ngoc Quang opened the scoring. Nguyen Van Vi scored a double. The other two scorers for the Vietnamese team were Nguyen Hai Long and Nguyen Quang Hai.
According to the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying format, only the group winners qualify for the finals in Saudi Arabia. Teams are ranked based on points, head-to-head record (points, goal difference, goals scored in head-to-head matches), overall goal difference, and total goals.
