On the morning of October 22, at a press conference on socio-economic, national defense and security in the first 9 months of 2024 organized by the People's Committee of Binh Duong province, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong - Chairman of the Council of Thu Dau Mot University informed about the review and refund of 37 billion VND in excess collection from students.

According to Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, the Provincial People's Committee agreed to allow the school to carry out procedures to refund the excess amount of practice credits collected for students in the two school years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. The excess amount is about 37 billion VND.
The review and verification of information is facing some difficulties due to the large number of students, about 20,000. However, with the spirit of ensuring the rights of students, the school is making efforts to complete this process as soon as possible. The school will refund tuition fees to students in a transparent, public and effective manner.
Regarding the funding source for the refund, the school will use its reserves. After that, the school will seek the opinions of the provincial leaders and the Department of Finance to refund the 37 billion VND that has been paid to the state budget.
Recently, the inspector of the Department of Home Affairs of Binh Duong province also pointed out many shortcomings and limitations in the organization and management of staff at Thu Dau Mot University.
In terms of organizational structure, the school has made mistakes in establishing and dissolving units and not complying with regulations on authority. Regarding staff management, the school has made mistakes in attracting, compensating and managing labor contracts of civil servants.
In particular, the recovery of training costs for cases studying under Project 911 and cases sent by schools to study is also not in accordance with regulations.
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong said that the school will review, clarify the responsibilities of related individuals and organizations and take remedial measures to ensure compliance with legal regulations.
