The epic poem "Flood" by poet Lu Mai (Writers Association Publishing House) published by Waka E-Book Company was honored as one of the outstanding books of 2024.

This is the first time an e-book has been named in this category, marking a turning point in literature in the digital age and timely recognition. The epic poem “Flood” and the project to accompany children in the highlands to school were launched in December 2024 with the desire to share love, create motivation to encourage and support children in the highlands to be enthusiastic and persistent in studying after heavy losses caused by natural disasters and many difficulties still continuing in life.

The work takes as its central image the soul of an unfortunate child who has left this world but in another world, she is protected by Mother Nature and has a journey back in time, telling stories of the past. The work reflects the fierceness of natural disasters but at the same time kindles hope for the spirit of sharing, solidarity, and love between people, expressing the beauty of regional cultures of Vietnamese ethnic groups and it is also a voice denouncing deforestation and damage to the ecosystem from a part of pragmatic people who act recklessly for profit.

Combining emotional verses with the application of modern information technology, the work is expected to touch the hearts of readers, arousing the spirit of mutual love, joining hands for a better future for children in the highlands to have a sustainable and bright future; helping people in flood-affected areas quickly stabilize their lives and spirits to move towards an open future. Through the digital technology path, the implementation team hopes that the work will have a strong coverage across all regions of the country, erasing geographical distances, while spreading a profound humanitarian spirit, gathering companionship from kind hearts across the country.

The epic poem “Flood” is published in two forms: e-book (Ebook, Audiobook, Videobook) and traditional paper book, in which the e-book form is prioritized first. According to experts, the special feature of the work is that the author has kept up with the changes in life, demonstrating the responsibility of the writer to the community; keeping up with the development of digital technology so that in a very short time (coordinated implementation with the company on e-books in November 2024), the work can be released and completely oriented towards the community. In addition, the participation of child artist Hoang Nhat Quang, a Tay ethnic boy (born in 2012) who won the De Men Children's Award through the illustration series "Mother Nature" not only illustrates the work but also deeply conveys the relationship between humans and nature through a child's perspective.

Since its release, the epic poem “Flood” has become a bridge between literature and the community. Author Lu Mai and the e-book company Waka have launched a fundraising program to support children in the highlands with a target of 150 million VND and many essential items such as clothes, blankets, shoes, etc.

In December 2024, the first gift shipment of the program was delivered by Waka to Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province - a disadvantaged area with many disadvantages. The image of children happily receiving gifts left a beautiful impression in the hearts of those implementing the project.

Poet Lu Mai currently works at the Culture - Arts Department, Nhan Dan Newspaper, is a member of the Vietnam Writers Association, and has published more than 20 major works in various genres: Poetry, short stories, prose, essays...

Some notable works: “Across the dawn” (Literature Publishing House, 2020); “Chư Tan Kra white clouds” (Writers Association Publishing House, 2021); “Resurrection” (Writers Association Publishing House, 2022), community book project “Where the waves begin - Eyes of the open sea”...
