In response to international news that Intel Corporation has suspended its plan to expand its factory in Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP), Mr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Head of SHTP Management Board, said that he had just received information from international media.
Representatives of Intel's chip assembly and testing plant shared information with the media in June 2023. |
"Currently, Intel's chip assembly and testing factory - Intel Products Vietnam (IPV) is still operating normally at SHTP. As of the evening of November 7, Intel Vietnam has not had any official information about changing the factory expansion plan with the SHTP Management Board. To date, Intel has disbursed nearly 2 billion USD in investment capital into SHTP, this is still a factory that plays an important role in Intel's global packaging system," Mr. Nguyen Anh Thi added.
In June 2023, at a media event in Ho Chi Minh City, Intel Corporation announced that it had invested a total of 1.5 billion USD in the factory at SHTP, creating about 6,500 jobs in the high-tech sector (including about 2,400 official employees under Intel), and contributing 76.3 billion USD in export value from 2010 to present.
In the first quarter of 2023, Intel accounted for 50% of SHTP's total export turnover, 15% of the country's electronic/component export turnover and about 18% of Ho Chi Minh City's total export turnover.
On October 29, 2010, Intel Corporation opened IPV at SHTP. Since then, IPV has shipped more than 3.5 billion units, produced the latest 13th generation Intel Core™ processors, and is ready to enter the Meteor Lake processor production process from late 2023.
In a working session with the delegation of Group 2 - Central Steering Committee for Summary (Developing a Socialist-oriented Market Economy ) on the afternoon of November 6 at SHTP, Mr. Nguyen Anh Thi stated that, after 20 years of establishment and development, SHTP has completed the stage of attracting foreign investment capital. The requirement for SHTP in the new stage is to contribute to improving Vietnam's technological capacity, not to focus on attracting production projects to contribute to export turnover, create jobs... like industrial parks and export processing zones.
Meanwhile, other information shows that recently, Intel Corporation has announced large investments in many other countries around the world . Most recently on June 16, 2023, there was information that Intel invested 4.6 billion USD to build a semiconductor product assembly and testing plant near Wrocław, Poland.
