From June 28 to July 2, at the invitation of the US Department of State, a delegation of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission led by Comrade Le Hoai Trung, member of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Commission, visited and worked in the United States.
In Washington DC, the delegation had meetings with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development Samantha Power, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific Daniel Kritenbrink, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Sasha Baker, President and CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council Ted Osius, leaders of the National Democratic Institute, the International Republican Institute and the US Institute of Peace; met with a number of former US officials and senators interested in and supporting the development of Vietnam-US relations and had an exchange at the Brookings Institute.
In New York, the delegation worked with UN Under-Secretary-General for Policy Guy Ryder, had an online exchange with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, met with long-time US friends in Vietnam, left-wing friends and representatives of the Communist Party USA.
During the discussions, the two sides agreed that the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership has developed strongly, positively and comprehensively in all fields over the past years.
Leaders of US government agencies affirmed that the United States considers Vietnam one of its key partners in the region, agreeing that the relationship between the two countries receives support from both the Democratic and Republican parties.
Appreciating the recent exchanges and contacts between the two sides, especially the very successful high-level phone call between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and US President Joe Biden in March 2023, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and US Administration officials emphasized the desire to maintain exchanges and contacts at all levels, especially at high levels in the year commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Partnership, to strengthen and deepen bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, climate change response, green energy, education and training, addressing the consequences of war, people-to-people exchange and joint efforts to address global issues.
The United Nations leaders highly appreciated Vietnam's development success, cooperation and contributions within the framework of the United Nations, expressing their wish that Vietnam would further promote its important role in solving global issues.
Left-wing friends and the Communist Party of the United States expressed their joy at the achievements of innovation and the path of building socialism in Vietnam, affirming that they will always support Vietnam and the development of Vietnam-US relations.
Head of the Central External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to its relations with the United States and wishes to continue developing relations with the United States for the benefit of the people of both countries, for peace, friendship, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
The Head of the Central External Relations Commission suggested that the two sides continue to implement the results of the phone call between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Joe Biden, promote high-level exchanges and contacts, and improve the effectiveness and substance of cooperation on party channels, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy.
In an exchange with the United Nations leaders, the Head of the Central External Relations Commission affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the role of the United Nations and continues to make active and responsible contributions to the common work of the international community.
With his left-wing friends and the Communist Party of the United States, Mr. Le Hoai Trung expressed his gratitude and loyal affection for the American friends who have always supported Vietnam in the past struggle for national liberation, and discussed directions to promote and strengthen cooperation with the Communist Party of the United States and political-social organizations and unions between the two sides in the coming time.
