This morning (January 19), the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection (VCPMC) held a summary of its activities in 2023. Accordingly, as of December 2023, the total number of authorized members at VCPMC has reached 5,782 authors and copyright owners.
In 2023, the total royalties collected by VCPMC (excluding value added tax) was more than 344 billion VND. The amount of royalties collected in Vietnam (excluding revenue from international CMOs) increased by about 29% compared to 2022; exceeding the target by 10%. The amount distributed and paid to copyright owners over 4 periods was more than 305 billion VND, an increase of 90% compared to 2022.

Up to now, the legal department of the two regions of VCPMC has handled a total of 34 lawsuits on copyright infringement, intellectual property disputes, and contract disputes; 20 out of 40 cases have been resolved, and at the same time, it continues to speed up the warning of violations and file lawsuits for subsequent violations.
VCPMC said that currently, the Center often faces difficulties because many performance organizers still delay paying royalties, abuse the agreement mechanism to intentionally obscure the "exclusive" rights of authors as prescribed by law as well as avoid the obligations of the user, causing difficulties and costs in processing costs, time and human resources of VCPMC.
Some programs such as: BlackPink, Mat Biec - Tinh ca Ngo Thuy Mien, BamBam The 1st World Tour Area 52... even though the agreement was extended, they still paid before the performance time; while programs: May Sai Gon, May Lang Thang (Da Lat, Hanoi), Lululola ... were not willing to pay royalties and currently the legal department of VCPMC is preparing a lawsuit.
The Center for Music Copyright Protection faces many difficulties in protecting copyright.
According to VCPMC, the use of music products on digital platforms and social networks is increasing, which poses a problem for copyright protection organizations. Therefore, to improve the efficiency of data processing, VCPMC and regional CMOs chaired by JASRAC are planning to build a "Data Exchange System".

VCPMC signed cooperation agreements with platforms such as Youtube, Facebook, Tiktok, Apple, Spotify... to build a music channel dedicated to each musician, not only maximizing revenue from exploiting works, but also earning remuneration from exploiting recordings invested in and produced by the musicians themselves.
This is also one of the efforts of VCPMC to accompany members in supporting the dissemination and promotion of works. Thereby reviewing and detecting cases of copyright infringement, dissemination in the digital environment. Sending warnings and reflecting violations to websites, music applications, recordings/links/online channels that infringe copyright.
Currently, VCPMC is the only collective copyright management organization in Vietnam, authorized to represent, manage and protect the interests of over 5 million international authors in Vietnam. At the same time, with bilateral commitments and coordination mechanisms between VCPMC and international organizations, the interests of Vietnamese authors are also managed and protected at 86 collective copyright management organizations with a scope of regulation in 154 countries and territories around the world.
To meet the development and integration, in January 2024, VCPMC moved the headquarters of the Southern branch to a new, more spacious location. According to the plan, VCPMC continues to make changes in facilities and technical infrastructure at the headquarters in Hanoi. At the same time, according to the plan and requirements of CISAC, VCPMC will host the Global CISAC Conference in Vietnam at the end of 2025.
