And in an exchange of messages marking the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Xi Jinping said both sides should "take practical actions to promote the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China-US relations."
“Xi Jinping stressed his willingness to work with President Biden to continue to guide China-US relations, benefit China, the US and their people, and promote world peace and development,” state broadcaster CCTV said.
“Adhering to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation is the correct way for China and the United States to interact,” Mr. Xi added, CCTV reported.
Xi also exchanged New Year messages with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and both declared 2024 as the “year of friendship” for both countries and launched a series of activities to that end, Xinhua said.
On New Year's Eve, the Chinese leader also exchanged New Year greetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia.
Xi said China and Russia should "continue to consolidate" and develop relations "with long-standing good-neighborly friendship", with comprehensive strategic coordination and win-win cooperation that would serve the interests of both countries.
