During a meeting with his US counterpart Antony Blinken in Washington on October 27, Mr. Wang Yi said the two countries have important common interests and challenges that they need to solve together.
Acknowledging that there will still be many differences between the US and China, Mr. Wang Yi affirmed that Beijing will react "calmly", based on the view that what is right and wrong is not decided by the stronger party.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the meeting between Mr. Blinken and Mr. Wang was part of an effort to “maintain open channels of communication and responsibly manage the US-China relationship.”
However, Mr. Miller still affirmed that the US will continue to protect its interests and values as well as those of its allies and partners.
Wang Yi's visit to the US is expected to pave the way for a summit between President Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the APEC conference in San Francisco, USA, next November.
