Vietnam is the host of Group C of the 2024 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers - the first tournament on the road to winning an Olympic ticket. The U23s are in the same group as Singapore, Yemen and Laos. The four teams will play a round robin to calculate points, with head-to-head stats taken into account before teams are tied on points.
Vietnam will play all three matches at 7pm, against Guam, Yemen and Singapore on September 6, 9 and 12 respectively. These three teams are all rated lower than the host team, so Philippe Troussier and his team have a good chance of topping the group.
The AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers are limited to players born after January 1, 2001, and will feature 42 teams in 11 groups, with hosts Qatar participating but not counting their results. North Korea initially agreed to participate, but withdrew in August 2023.
The 11 group winners and the four best runners-up will join Qatar in the finals in April 2024. Due to the three-team and four-team groups, the results against the bottom team will not be counted when comparing the runners-up.
