Domestic coffee prices remain stable, July coffee prices increase sharply

Domestic coffee prices were updated at 4:30 a.m. on August 1, 2024 as follows, according to www.giacaphe.com, domestic coffee prices increased slightly by 100 - 200 VND compared to yesterday, ranging from 123,000 - 123,600 VND/kg. Currently, the average purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces is 123,500 VND/kg, the highest purchase price in Dak Nong province is 123,600 VND/kg.

Specifically, the coffee purchase price in Gia Lai province (Chu Prong) is 123,500 VND, an increase of 200 VND/kg, in Pleiku and La Grai the same price is 123,300 VND/kg; in Kon Tum province, coffee is purchased at 125,000 VND/kg, an increase of 200 VND/kg; in Dak Nong province, coffee is purchased at the highest price of 123,600 VND/kg.

The price of green coffee beans (coffee beans, fresh coffee beans) in Lam Dong province in districts such as Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha, coffee is purchased at 123,000 VND/kg.

Coffee prices today, August 1, in Dak Lak province increased slightly by 100 VND/kg compared to yesterday; in Cu M'gar district, coffee was purchased at about 123,500 VND/kg, and in Ea H'leo district and Buon Ho town, it was purchased at the same price of 123,400 VND/kg.

In July 2024, domestic coffee prices increased by 4,300 - 4,800 VND/kg, which was also the first month that coffee prices increased after 2 consecutive months of slight decrease.

At the end of the trading session, the price of Robusta coffee on the London floor on August 1, 2024 at 4:30 a.m. increased and decreased in opposite directions at 3,839 - 4,261 USD/ton. Specifically, the delivery period for September 2024 was 4,261 USD/ton (down 5 USD/ton); the delivery period for November 2024 was 4,116 USD/ton (down 2 USD/ton); the delivery period for January 2025 was 3,970 USD/ton (up 1 USD/ton) and the delivery period for March 2025 was 3,839 USD/ton (down 4 USD/ton).

Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor on the morning of August 1, 2024 decreased from 224.80 - 229.20 ent/lb. Specifically, the September 2024 delivery period is 229.20 cents/lb (down 0.69%); the December 2024 delivery period is 228.15 cents/lb (down 0.63%); the March 2025 delivery period is 226.90 cents/lb (down 0.61%) and the May 2025 delivery period is 224.80 cents/lb, down 0.62%.

The price of Brazilian Arabica coffee on the morning of August 1, 2024 increased and decreased in opposite directions. Specifically, the delivery period for September 2024 was 287.00 USD/ton (up 0.03%); the delivery period for December 2024 was 279.65 USD/ton (up 0.22%); the delivery period for March 2025 was 275.05 USD/ton (down 1.22%) and the delivery period for May 2025 was 273.20 USD/ton (down 0.67%).

Robusta coffee traded on the ICE Futures Europe (London exchange) opens at 16:00 and closes at 00:30 (next day), Vietnam time.

Arabica coffee on the ICE Futures US floor (New York floor) opens at 16:15 and closes at 01:30 (next day), Vietnam time.

For Arabica coffee traded on the B3 Brazil floor, it will be open from 19:00 – 02:35 (next day), Vietnam time.

Concerns about dry winter weather in Brazil are also helping to keep coffee prices down. Somar Meteorologia reported on Monday that Brazil’s Minas Gerais region received no rain last week, compared with the historical average for the week at this time of year of 5.1 mm.

News of smaller coffee exports from Vietnam over the weekend also helped keep Robusta prices from falling further, but Arabica prices remained at a three-week low as supply concerns eased.

Futures prices fell more than 8 percent near a three-week low as traders assessed mild winter weather conditions in Brazil.

Globally, coffee prices, especially Arabica coffee prices, continue to decline due to pressure from the progress of the new crop coffee harvest in Brazil.

Brazil has completed 81% of its 2024/2025 coffee harvest as of July 23, up from 74% a year earlier and ahead of the five-year average of 77%, according to Safras & Mercado, with certified Arabica stocks in New York up 2,495 bags on the last trading day of the week, reaching 814,801 bags.
