Growing black grapes is more expensive than imported grapes
Mr. Le Van Binh in Xuan My commune, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province is known as a dynamic, creative, passionate cooperative director who has been successful in organic agricultural production with fruit varieties of high economic value such as melons and golden melons grown in greenhouses.
In 2024, Mr. Le Van Binh boldly brought back the black summer grape variety to plant. This is a grape variety that grows well, yields quickly, has thick, crispy flesh, has a mild, sweet aroma, and is seedless.
On an area of over 3000 m2 , Mr. Le Van Binh invested in a systematic greenhouse with a roof above, and installed a drip irrigation system to grow 1000 black summer grape trees. Up to now, the vineyard has borne fruit, promising a successful first crop.
Mr. Le Van Binh said: "Before bringing the black grape variety back to grow, I traveled to many places both domestically and internationally with the aim of learning effective farming methods to apply in my locality.
I had the opportunity to visit China and experience the model of growing black grapes, a high-yielding grape variety, and found that it could be suitable for the climate conditions of Xuan My.

I spent a lot of time researching the growth process of the plant and the time it takes to produce fruit. At the same time, I also learned about some provinces in the country that have successfully grown this grape variety, such as Ninh Thuan and Hanoi. Finally, I decided to buy the seeds to plant."
"Compared to other plants, black grapes have an outstanding advantage, instead of having to be replanted after each crop season like melons. Grapes only need to be planted once, properly cared for after each harvest, the plant can bear fruit every year without needing to be replanted.
If well cared for, the black grape variety will have a lifespan of 10-15 years. This saves a lot of money and time.
Besides, the black grape variety has a much higher economic value than melon, from 120,000 - 150,000 VND/kg. If successful, each grape crop can bring 2-3 times more profit than conventional crops," Mr. Binh revealed.
According to Mr. Binh, growing black grapes is quite "difficult", to ensure the tree grows effectively, it is necessary to have pruning techniques, fertilization processes, and adequate care. In addition, grapes are very "allergic" to rain and flooding, so high trenches must be dug, planted in a greenhouse with a roof system to give the tree the best growing conditions.

Taking care of black grapes in the early stages is very hard, often requiring pruning, shaping, meticulous observation and correct techniques to produce many flowers and fruit.
When the young fruit appears, it is necessary to prune the grape bunches to ensure that they are large, round, even and beautiful when harvested. When about to harvest, special attention must be paid to soil moisture to ensure the sweetness of the fruit.
Combining farming with experiential tourism
Xuan My Commune, Nghi Xuan District is a semi-mountainous coastal area with an unfavorable climate for grapevines. However, thanks to proper care and technical processes, the grapes are supplemented with proper nutrition, grow quite well and produce a lot of fruit.
Currently, the cooperative has connected consumption channels as well as promoted the image of the vineyard on social networking sites, set up farm search positioning to attract visitors to visit, experience and buy products.
Mr. Le Van Binh said: "For more than a month now, we have welcomed many delegations as well as groups and individuals from inside and outside the province to visit, study and experience the Ha Den grape garden.
We are always willing to share our experiences and create conditions for people to visit or learn about the model and apply it. If the black grape variety continues to show effectiveness, we will continue to expand the area."

"This is a product that brings many new values, not only for selling products but also for ecological and landscape significance. We will aim to build a high-tech agricultural production model associated with experiential tourism with black grape as the main plant to serve tourists to visit and experience," Mr. Binh said with satisfaction.

In addition to growing black grapes, Mr. Le Van Binh also experimented with growing peony grapes, hoping for high efficiency and productivity.
In addition, applying modern care methods and minimizing the use of pesticides also helps the cooperative's farm create clean, safe products for consumers, while contributing to environmental protection.
Talking to PV Dan Viet, Ms. Tran Thi Hieu - Vice Chairman of Xuan My Commune People's Committee, commented: "Recently, in Nghi Xuan district, there have been many creative production models. In particular, the black grape growing model of Mr. Le Van Binh has brought very positive results.
The initial successes of the model demonstrate the will to rise up, creativity in labor, bringing new values, new directions in shifting crop structure towards organic production, high technology, protecting the ecological environment, improving value, quality, income and promoting tourism development".
"The local government always accompanies and continues to spread good models and practices to create residential areas as well as ecological areas to attract tourists to the locality," said Ms. Tran Thi Hieu - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan My Commune, Nghi Xuan District, Ha Tinh Province.
