On March 22, 2014, in Cam Ranh Bay, submarine 183 was launched from the Rolldock Star (Netherlands) after more than a month of sailing across 3 oceans from the Russian Federation to Vietnam, the ship officially entered the waters of Vietnam's sea. Over the past 10 years, the sailors of submarine 183, Brigade 189 of the Navy have always strived to train for combat readiness and master the ship. On the command tower of submarine 183, there is the logo symbolizing Ho Chi Minh City, a great honor, reminding each officer and sailor of submarine 183 to uphold the spirit of solidarity, overcome difficulties, and be determined to excellently complete the assigned tasks, worthy of being a submarine named after Ho Chi Minh City.

"Submarines have their own characteristics, so in the first phase we encountered many difficulties in acquiring knowledge due to language barriers. However, with a spirit of eagerness to learn and high determination, the crew achieved good results..."

As one of the first sailors of the 183rd submarine crew, Major Mai Van Phap, Head of Sector 5, still cannot help but recall 10 years ago, when the Navy Command announced the Decision to establish the 2nd Submarine Crew of Group 189 (the predecessor of Brigade 189) for training. The main task of the course was to train specialized Russian language and physical training for submarine officers and students. This was the first stage of preparation for the future training process of submarine students in the Russian Federation.

The difficulties of that first day of confusion were not gone, but with a positive and proactive spirit, "studying during the day is not enough, take advantage of studying at night"; the Party Committee and the ship's commanders introduced the model of "5 points a day", "5 points a week" to arouse the spirit of eagerness to learn of each student.

Major Mai Van Phap said that submarine training is a new and difficult subject to understand; to master it, each sailor must be extremely focused, determined, take advantage of every moment to study, actively look up the dictionary, discuss in groups; if there are any questions that are not understood, they must take the opportunity to ask the specialized teachers right in the classroom. After nearly 2 years of study, with a high sense of responsibility, overcoming difficulties and hardships; the officers and sailors of Submarine Crew No. 2 of Group 189 have exploited and mastered the technical equipment on the submarine.

On March 22, 2014, at Cam Ranh Bay, Submarine 183 was launched from the Rolldock Star (Netherlands) after more than a month of sailing across 3 oceans from the Russian Federation to Vietnam, the ship officially immersed in the waters of Vietnam's sea. From here, Submarine 183 entered the stage of receiving, training, transferring and mastering the technical equipment of the modern Kilo 636 submarine, dubbed the "Black Hole of the Ocean".

Lieutenant Colonel Le Ba Tinh, captain of ship 183-Ho Chi Minh City shared: In the first days of ship 183's return to the country, the reception, mastery and operation of the ship by officers and sailors still encountered many difficulties, but with a spirit of determination, in a short time, officers and sailors of Submarine 183 were able to master new and difficult contents such as: Receiving weapons; charging and discharging batteries; receiving reserves; emergency diving, incident surfacing, escape... quickly mastering the subjects, from exploiting technical equipment, coordinating combat deployment exercises, weapons use exercises to independently operating the submarine to perform the following tasks:

"It is an honor and pride to become officers and sailors serving on the submarine named Ho Chi Minh City. Generations of officers and sailors of Ship 183 always keep in mind the motto "The greater the honor - The greater the responsibility" to uphold the determination, overcome difficulties and challenges to excellently complete assigned tasks, contributing to further embellishing the tradition of the submarine force of the Vietnam People's Navy "Solidarity, discipline; secrecy, surprise; determination to fight, determination to win" - Lieutenant Colonel Le Ba Tinh said.

According to Colonel Nguyen Van Quan, Brigade Commander, Brigade 189: During the training process, foreign experts always highly appreciated the responsibility, determination, bravery, eagerness to learn, receptiveness and endurance of Vietnamese submarine sailors. After only 6 months of training, the crew was qualified to independently exploit technical equipment, master measures to fight to protect the life of the ship, escape from the submarine in case of an accident, and train in command and coordination of combat for the entire ship. The Navy Command decided to put the 183 - Ho Chi Minh City Submarine Team into the combat formation of the Service 6 months earlier than planned.

"Submarine 183 - Ho Chi Minh City is a united collective with a team of well-trained officers and sailors, always having a strong political stance, high determination, deep awareness of mission requirements, good professional knowledge, dynamism, creativity, daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility. Over the past 10 years, Submarine 183 has excellently completed all assigned tasks, becoming the leading flag in the emulation movement to win of the Brigade" - Colonel Nguyen Van Quan added.

As a submarine honorably named after Uncle Ho, since its establishment, the 183 submarine crew has always received the attention of the leaders and people of Ho Chi Minh City. This is a great encouragement and motivation for the officers and sailors of the 183 submarine in particular, and the officers and soldiers of the 189 submarine brigade in general, to have more motivation and strength to rise up to master the submarine, master the ocean.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Thuan, Political Commissar of Ship 183, affirmed that, in addition to spiritual encouragement, over the past 10 years, the leaders and people of Ho Chi Minh City have supported the Brigade to build many meaningful works: Symbols of 6 submarines, tradition room, Brigade library, computer room, submarine training technology application..., which have shown the affection of the city's people for the officers and sailors of Submarine Brigade 189 in general and the officers and sailors of Submarine Brigade 183 in particular.

Over the past 10 years, Submarine 183-TP.HCM has successfully completed many long-term sea voyages with absolute safety with thousands of diving hours, traveling tens of thousands of nautical miles in the sea, diving continuously for many days and nights at different depths in complex meteorological and hydrographic conditions. The ship has successfully completed many important missions such as firing torpedoes, dropping mines, conducting confrontation exercises at the highest level... Those results affirm the independence, autonomy, and creativity of officers and sailors in training, exploiting and mastering modern submarines, contributing to affirming national sovereignty in the sea, worthy of the 16 golden words "Special loyalty, disciplined discipline, elite leadership, absolute safety" awarded by the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

Faced with many complicated developments at sea, each officer and sailor of Ship 183 is always united, unanimous, determined to overcome difficulties, excellently complete all assigned tasks, contributing to firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea, islands, and sacred continental shelf of the Fatherland; worthy of being a submarine honored to be named Ho Chi Minh City.

Over the past 10 years, Submarine 183 - Ho Chi Minh City has been honored to receive the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal from the President, a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, and many Certificates of Merit from the Minister of National Defense. For 10 consecutive years, Submarine 183 has been awarded the title of "Determined to Win Unit", "Excellent Training Unit" by the Navy Command, and many collectives and individuals have been awarded at all levels.
