In addition to the desire to be close to his family after many years apart, Mr. Khanh shared the reason for returning to Vietnam was that after a long time working abroad, he realized that the gap between Vietnam's microchip industry and the world was still quite large.

"That motivated me to return to Vietnam to participate in the microchip industry in a practical environment and to train students to help them narrow the gap with "global engineers," the overseas Vietnamese shared withKinh te & Do thi .

Chip with strong Vietnamese identity

He shared that he is participating in two major projects, one of which is aimed at developing a chip specifically for Vietnamese farmers.

The project of applying AI sensor chips to aquaculture in Vietnam by Mr. Khanh and his colleagues around the world aims to produce products with a strong "made in Vietnam" quality.

In particular, Mr. Khanh said, there is a Japanese electronics company that is very interested in and likes the idea of "Vietnamese people making for Vietnamese people", committed to production, the company's "core" contribution is the anti-corrosion, anti-impact synthetic mechanical design, produced right in Vietnam.

"There are many niches in the agricultural industry that can be exploited to develop chips with their own identity - Vietnamese chips," Mr. Khanh excitedly shared.

According to overseas Japanese, for example, in the shrimp farming project, most farmers and design companies will use available applications to participate in reviewing and monitoring the production process. But from the perspective of microchips, we can design our own microchips for Vietnamese people, modify them appropriately and standardize them according to the climate and culture of Vietnam.

When intervened from the microchip level, it is also possible to optimize the power consumption of the chip with a compact size, standardized according to the needs of Vietnamese farmers.

“If not now, when?”

Mr. Khanh assessed that the Vietnamese semiconductor market has strong potential with large domestic demand, from national security and defense, civil sensors to high-tech applications for agriculture.

As an overseas Vietnamese who has studied and worked in many countries, Mr. Khanh shared that he always wants to contribute to his homeland through specific actions.

Especially in the context of the Vietnamese Government actively creating favorable conditions and the strong development of microchips, this is a very favorable time for overseas Vietnamese like him to contribute to this field. "If not now, then when?", Mr. Khanh said with a hearty laugh.

According to him, the government has created many favorable conditions to attract talents to the semiconductor and high-tech sectors in general. In particular, the development of a tripartite relationship between the Government - Enterprises - Training and research institutions in Vietnam is being promoted more and more effectively and positively. This is also one of the factors that encourages overseas Vietnamese to return home to contribute more. Such a combination, according to him, is very necessary as well as further expanding the overseas Vietnamese network to "resonate" the strength in the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.

Regarding the plan to train 50,000 engineers in Vietnam's semiconductor industry, Mr. Khanh assessed that the overseas Vietnamese network can contribute significantly to realizing this goal. The advantage of the overseas Vietnamese community when abroad is that it can take advantage of policies, documents, and technology from all over the world. "If we can connect such a large network, we will take advantage of it and create a bridge between Vietnam and advanced countries," he said.
