PTI. Sri Lanka is installing an automated facial recognition system at Bandaranaike International Airport to catch suspects in drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
YONHAP. Military sources said that the North Korean army conducted live-fire drills north of the South Korean border island of Yeonpyeong from around 4 p.m. on January 7.

AP. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Hezbollah to “learn a lesson from Hamas,” after the group’s leader vowed revenge for the killing of a Hamas leader in Hezbollah-controlled territory in Lebanon.

UKRAINSKA PRAVDA. Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko made a surprise visit to Ukraine and announced that Tokyo has pledged to contribute $37 million to NATO's fund to supplement defense assistance to the Eastern European country.

DPA. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, assuring that Rome will continue to support Kiev in its conflict with Russia.

AP. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with senior Jordanian government officials in the capital Amman as part of a Middle East visit aimed at preventing the Hamas-Israel conflict from spreading to the region.

AL JAZEERA. Rwanda, Chad and the Democratic Republic of Congo have denied reports of negotiations with Israel to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to their countries.
Xinhua. The electoral authority of the Democratic Republic of Congo has annulled the recent election results of three ministers and four provincial governors, citing fraud, voter intimidation and illegal possession of voting machines.
