Strange yet familiar, unique yet effective. With just a small space and little investment, many farmers in Phu Tho have succeeded in turning the hobby of raising crickets - a wild and familiar insect in the countryside - into a potential agricultural model with stable income to escape poverty and get rich.

Crickets - a nutritious food source, with a wide consumer market, low investment costs, simple care techniques, suitable for small-scale farming practices in rural areas.

Crickets adapt well to the living environment, the breeding temperature can reach 40 - 50 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the breeding area is often simply designed with an iron frame, mesh, nylon, ensuring a cool space, avoiding rain, sun and direct impact.

To create conditions for crickets to lay many eggs during the breeding season, people often raise male and female crickets in the same cage; use trays of moist sawdust for crickets to make nests when laying eggs. The egg hatching process lasts from 7 to 14 days.

Humidity plays an important role in the process of raising crickets. Therefore, daily water spraying in the cages is always ensured to ensure that the growth and molting process of crickets through each stage takes place smoothly.

Crickets are often raised in egg trays. These trays keep them warm, maintain good humidity, and are cheap. After use, the trays can be recycled or combined with waste and leftover cricket food to make fertilizer.

Crickets are not picky eaters and can utilize agricultural plants. However, the food must be clean, not spoiled or moldy, to avoid causing disease.

Crickets used as animal feed only need to be raised for 28 to 30 days before being sold. Commercial crickets take about 40 days to harvest. Depending on their age, the market price of crickets ranges from 100,000 to 200,000 VND/kg.
