In medicine, pediatricians advise that babies should be at least 2-3 months old before flying. This is because at that time, the baby's immune system has just developed and is strong enough to resist changes in the strange environment.

Doctors are concerned that what the baby will have to face is the closed air in the plane cabin, where there are many strange bacteria in the air because the plane is a place where many people often pass by. This can make the baby uncomfortable or susceptible to bacteria entering the body. Therefore, doctors recommend that, if possible, let your baby be stronger and have enough resistance to fight against external agents before letting the baby fly with adults.

If you need to fly early, have your baby checked two weeks in advance and only fly early if the baby is full-term. Premature babies have weaker immune systems than normal babies and are therefore more susceptible to infections and respiratory infections.

Airline regulations

Typically, airlines will not allow babies under 1 week old to fly without a doctor present.

With Bamboo Airways, they accept to transport passengers who are healthy infants, under 2 years old and have not reached their second birthday compared to the departure date of each flight.

The airline also refuses to transport infants under 14 days old to ensure the safety of passengers and the flight. Each infant must be accompanied by an adult passenger. Passengers traveling with infants and children cannot simultaneously accompany or assist passengers with mobility difficulties on the same flight. The maximum number of infants on each flight is at least 16.

Vietjet Air accepts to transport infants 14 days old or older, full-term and in normal health, provided they are accompanied by a parent or person over 18 years old. The airline refuses to transport infants under 14 days old.

If the child is premature, has an infectious disease or other health problems, the parent or accompanying person must present a health certificate for the child at the airport.

Vietnam Airlines accepts infants (from 7 days old to under 2 years old) to travel by plane with the condition that they are accompanied by an adult. The airline does not accept the transport of infants who are not in good health or kept in incubators.

Each adult is only allowed to accompany one infant and must bring one of the following documents: Birth certificate for children under 1 month old or birth certificate/certificate of being adopted by a social organization. You must register in advance for the accompanying flight attendant service if traveling with more than one child.

From the second infant onwards, each infant must purchase a child ticket (CHD) and must book and pay for the accompanying cabin crew service (at least 3 days before the scheduled departure time for domestic flights and 5 days for international flights). The accompanying cabin crew service fee is the same as the airfare applicable to adults (corresponding to the class of seat you choose).

Vietnam Airlines does not accept to transport infants under 7 days old, premature infants or infants who for health reasons must be kept in incubators and does not accept to transport infants traveling alone.

The number of infants accepted for transport on each flight is not more than 10% of the total number of passenger seats. Therefore, if you have a need, you should buy a plane ticket and book the service early.
