The new compound is the result of the research topic "Chemical composition and effects of the aboveground part of Glinus oppositifolius on FAS and SREBP-1c through AMPK activation in HepG2 and C2C12 cells".

The project was carried out by a group of scientists from Traphaco Joint Stock Company, the Central Institute of Medicinal Materials (Ministry of Health) and colleagues .

The group's representative, Dr. Do Thi Ha (Institute of Medicinal Materials), said that this new compound is called Traphanoside GO1 (TRA-GO1), showing the attachment to Traphaco - the unit that accompanied scientists in the discovery process.

According to the study, a new saponin compound (Traphanoside GO1, TRA GO1) and four known compounds (TRA-GO2 - TRAGO5) were isolated from the extract of Rau dang dat. Rau dang dat extract and compounds isolated from the aerial part of Rau dang dat may be helpful in combating obesity and fatty acid metabolism disorders.

Research on this compound was announced at the AFPS 2023 international pharmaceutical conference, held from November 8 to 10 in Hanoi. AFPS is the leading pharmaceutical conference in the Asia-Pacific region with more than 500 experts attending, sharing the latest pharmaceutical research and achievements of the latest technology in the pharmaceutical industry.

High quality oriental medicine

One of the focuses of the National Strategy for Pharmaceutical Industry Development to 2030 and Vision to 2045 approved by the Government is to develop medicinal herbs, medicines and products from domestic medicinal herbs into high-quality and high-value commodity production; promote the production of pharmaceutical ingredients; and optimize the use of medicines.

For Traphaco, the development strategy "Maintaining the No. 1 position in Oriental medicine - investing in developing high-quality modern medicine" for the period 2021 - 2025 is on track with the national strategy for pharmaceutical industry development to 2030 and the Government's vision to 2045.

According to Ms. Thuy Ha: "The announcement to the international scientific community of the results of research from medicinal herbs affirms Traphaco's consistency. That is, each of the company's oriental medicine products undergoes a continuous process of research, proof, and thorough quality control, not only from the time of formation but also after being put into use. Therefore, the quality of Traphaco's oriental medicine products is constantly improved over time, increasing with the "age" of the product".

"We at Traphaco have a "tradition" of only selecting good human resources, right from the first day of establishment. Over 50 years of establishment and development, Traphaco has always prioritized investment in human resources, medicinal herb growing areas that meet strict WHO standards and modern new technology," Ms. Dao Thuy Ha passionately talked about the priorities that Traphaco always carries out with the highest commitments.

Modern scientific evidence of the effectiveness of Oriental medicine

Just this November, Traphaco and scientists have had the latest international publications on domestic medicinal herbs, which are the topics "Chemical composition and uses of Glinus oppositifolius on Fas and Srebp-1c and amPK activation in HepG2 and C2C12 cell lines"; "Neuroprotective effects of Polyscias fruticosa extract against neurotoxicity caused by glutamate" and "Screening of some biological activities of Polyscias sp. species grown in Vietnam".

These are projects that Traphaco has invested in, in cooperation with scientists from medicinal research institutes in Vietnam in the past 3 years. The research aims to provide clear modern scientific evidence on the existing treatment effectiveness and new effects of medicinal herbs that meet GACP-WHO standards and are grown in Traphaco's green raw materials, creating Traphaco's main oriental medicinal products such as: Boganic, Hoat Huyet Duong Nao, Cebraton.

Over the past 51 years, the quality of Traphaco's Oriental medicine has always been proven by modern scientific research by domestic and foreign scientists.

Regarding modern medicine, Traphaco promotes the production of bioequivalent drugs and first generic drugs through enhanced scientific cooperation and technology transfer from abroad.

In recent years, Traphaco has had 7 products certified as Bioequivalent. Drugs that are proven to be bioequivalent can be considered therapeutically equivalent to original brand name drugs (foreign invention drugs).
