As Dan Tri reported earlier, Phong Chau bridge connecting Lam Thao district and Tam Nong district collapsed two spans on the morning of September 9. Immediately after hearing the news, Mr. Ngo Van Khanh rushed outside and was horrified to see that the sturdy bridge across the Red River had lost two spans.
Minutes later, he saw a man clinging to a tree, struggling in the floodwaters.
Without thinking much, Mr. Khanh immediately ran out to get his family's boat, then together with his uncle and younger brother, Mr. Ngo Quoc Trung, drove the motorboat closer to where the victim was calling for help.
Mr. Khanh swam into the water to save the victim, while Mr. Trung was on the boat to support, rescue and pull the victim safely onto the boat.
