After 3 days of competition at the HBSF - MIN Table 2024 Billiards Championship held in Ho Chi Minh City, the most interesting content was the men's 3-cushion carom, which found the 32 best players to compete in the knockout round. Round 32 took place from the morning of December 24, with the participation of many famous players of the Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards village such as Tran Quyet Chien, Ngo Dinh Nai, Tran Thanh Luc, Tran Duc Minh, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen, Chiem Hong Thai, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu... The matches took place in 40 points, not in the same turn.

Tran Quyet Chien "successfully collects debt"

In the round of 32, Tran Quyet Chien faced the current World Championship runner-up Tran Thanh Luc. It can be said that this is a match full of fate, as these two players often meet each other in domestic and international playgrounds such as the 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup. In the last encounter at the final World Cup in 2024 held in Sharm el Sheikh - Egypt in early December, Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Luc were also in the same group in the round of 32. At that time, Thanh Luc defeated Tran Quyet Chien. This is also a rare time that the current world runner-up can overcome the number 1 player in Vietnam.

Tran Quyet Chien defeated Tran Thanh Luc in the rematch.

In the rematch with his junior, Tran Quyet Chien entered the match very explosively with consecutive series of shots. In the first 3 shots of the match, the player born in 1984 had series of 9 points, 6 points and 3 points to take an 18-0 lead over Thanh Luc. On the other hand, Tran Thanh Luc seemed to be under psychological pressure due to his opponent's dizzying scoring speed, so the current world runner-up could not handle his shots accurately.

Tran Quyet Chien brought the match into halftime after only 6 innings, leading Tran Thanh Luc 20-3.

In the second half, Tran Quyet Chien could not maintain the high scoring speed of the first half of the match. In 10 turns after the break, Vietnam's number 1 player only added 13 points, including a series of 6 in the 12th turn. Meanwhile, Tran Thanh Luc woke up to shorten the gap with his opponent. After 16 turns, the gap was narrowed to only 9 points, when Quyet Chien led 34-25.

Billiard player Tran Quyet Chien lost the 2024 championship title for this unfortunate reason.

Tran Quyet Chien showed his mettle when he scored a series of 5 points in the 18th round, thereby winning 40-26 against Tran Thanh Luc. Quyet Chien won the right to participate in the round of 16 - men's 3-cushion carom event of the 2024 HBSF Billiards Championship.

In the match at the same time, young talent Chiem Hong Thai defeated veteran player Ly The Vinh 40-28, after 26 turns. Thus, Tran Quyet Chien will face Chiem Hong Thai in the round of 16.

In the remaining matches in round 32, Ngo Dinh Nai won dramatically 40-38 against Pham Quoc Thuan, Ma Minh Cam defeated Le Quoc Trung with a score of 40-20, and Nguyen Quoc Nguyen won 40-13 against Nguyen Thanh Tung.

The champion of the men's 3-cushion carom billiards event at the 2024 HBSF Billiards Championship will receive 100 million VND in prize money. The runner-up will receive 40 million VND, and the third place winner will receive 15 million VND. In addition, there are 2 additional prizes for "best game" (the match with the highest scoring efficiency and "biggest series"), each receiving 5 million VND.
