Billiard player Tran Quyet Chien has just won the 3-cushion carom billiards championship at the Porto World Cup 2023 held in Portugal.
Previously in the semi-finals, Tran Quyet Chien defeated his junior Chiem Hong Thai with a score of 50-26. In the final, he met Sameh Sidhom (Egypt, ranked 8th in the world) - who defeated Jeremy Bury (France, ranked 11th in the world) with a score of 50-20.
Against a highly rated opponent, Tran Quyet Chien played with confidence. Sidhom quickly got off to a good start with a 5-point streak. However, the Vietnamese player, with his own strength, was able to restrain his opponent's excitement and then launched a 8-point streak to overcome his opponent. The more he played, the more confident the Vietnamese player played and after 18 turns, the score was 30-14 for Tran Quyet Chien.

Despite his opponent's efforts to keep up with the score, Tran Quyet Chien still scored regularly to win 50-30. With the above result, Tran Quyet Chien won the World Cup for the second time after the championship in Ho Chi Minh City in 2018 when he defeated Ngo Dinh Nai in the final match. The player born in 1984 is also the only person in the history of Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards to win the World Cup. In addition, with 120 bonus points, Tran Quyet Chien will likely return to the top 5 in the world.
In addition to Tran Quyet Chien's championship, Vietnamese billiards also had a bronze medal from the 1999-born player Chiem Hong Thai. Two other young players, Bao Phuong Vinh and Tran Thanh Luc, also entered the round of 16 strongest players of the 3-cushion carom billiards Porto World Cup 2023.
